No country should have gone back to allowing international travel. That’s what F’d it all up.

Preaching to the choir mate.

Not only that, but if you tank the economy, and you destroy the life chances of a generation of young people. You will literally knock years off their life expectancy.

Poverty by every metric, wrecks lives.

It’s not going to just be 4 weeks either is it, no doubt we will still be expected to lapse though.

They're planning on keeping the schools open, so this 4 week lockdown won't even be that effective.

So, after a few weeks, they'll realise this and close the schools too.

I expect we'll be in lockdown till spring, but they'll pretend we aren't in lockdown for Christmas.

I think the other lot would still do the same, unfortunately. I think most people when you mention 'economy' think of rich posh prople losing money on their investments. They don't even realise that their pension and job is on the line.

Rate of infection in schools is lower than in the general population and flat or declining in primary school children.
So no, again he's not right.

From this position, no matter what we do, or who leads us, we're f****d.

I won't turn this political, and I'm certainly no fan of the "other lot", but they haven't been anywhere near power for 10 years. Responsibility for our current situation, lies with the incumbents.

Will there ever be an end to this? I have been told by some business they will not reopen after another lockdown, And for anyone who does not think it will effect them calling for another lockdown is insanity and I am no capitalist but the economics is basic mathematics of where is it this magic money tree? Where will all the lending come from people are shitting bricks while this prat cannot make a decision in a timely fashion or sack the idiots who broke the lockdown rules and those who did not implement the test and trace system!

How do you know the rate of infection in asymptomatic kids that can pass the virus on? Asymptomatic=no test=no infection (officially).

Well, I think everybody is pinning their hopes on a vaccine by next summer.

If that fails, we'll just have to learn to live with covid-19 and hope that the deadliness can be lessened over time, with improved treatments.

It did work the first time.

It was "late", and thus went on longer that it could have, but it did slow the spread and thus reduce the load on hospitals which was the aim of the lockdown. If it hadn't "worked" cases would have continued to rise, and hospitals would have had patients stacked on top of each other possibly with trailers filling the car parks to store the dead.

This new lockdown has the same aim. Now that cases have risen to a point where there is risk of overwhelming hospitals again, they aim to slow the spread to reduce the load on hospitals again.
