I've had stuff delivered on a Sunday, given the choice I'd have stuff delivered on a Sunday even if it meant having to pay £2 more.

Can't see why it can't be done for packets or at least Tracked upto the point it reaches the DO provided the new address is covered by the same DO
When you tell dpd you want a parcel delivering to a pick up store on the day of delivery it's the next day when it gets delivered not the same day so if we could probably offer something similar. It'd be no good if when out on delivery you get a message saying a parcel needs to be delivered to somewhere on a different delivery.

Maybe they could get volunteers from mail centres to deliver parcels on overtime on Sundays because I don't think many in dos will be volunteering. That's probably something the 300 lat units would do anyway

The problem customers have these days is being in to receive post/packages. When they are not in it causes problems for them and it slows RM down.

Some random ideas....

-Incentivise the people of the UK to install one of these parcel box contraptions. Can't RM start selling these things themselves? Sell them cheap, offer an installation service.

-Get small letterboxes banned.

-Is there a way you can get customers to 'sign for' something when they are not in....can you get around this somehow (apart from going to a neighbour)?

-Designate Posties to rounds close to where they live, ideally including the same street they live on. They can be the friendly local Postie that everyone knows....they can take the parcels home with them and the locals can come to their house and pick up their parcel from Mr or Mrs Postie later in the evening.

-Build parcel boxes on street corners. Postie arrives at customers house....customer is not in....Postie writes out a docket and selects on the PDA to collect from parcel box on Boodle Street (which is less than a few streets away) from 3pm onwards. At end of Posties round he drops parcel into the parcel box. Customer receives a one time code online/through text message.....they come home and go to the parcel box on the corner of Boodle street, enter code and collect their parcel.

That,s a great idea, now contract somebody in the posties house to certain hours so the customer is never disappointed and get them to wear a uniform, maybe even get them to take out insurance in case anything goes missing or install cctv! no more going out or sleeping in the evening for the postie.

Isn't that what we are doing when we leave parcels with neighbours..... the random neighbour becomes a Post Office.

Anyway, yeah - I was thinking outside the box, wasn't that serious, was just an idea which maybe could be evolved into something.

This part is brilliant, not the other part about leaving your parcels at your house, u don’t now these people, . Another think I don’t understand why Royal Mail doesn’t use the post offices more, Dpd, Amazon etc would love to have a network like this, instead of sending people miles to pick up parcels use the post offices postman just drop them of there on the way back to the depot. At my own depot some routes do do this, where as other have to bring them back to the depot.

It's not wise to write this information on the forum as DOMs are expected to do some kind of WTLL activity every week and there are repercussions if it isn't being done. Best not to say anything if your office is not doing it.

The 'Local Collect' service is used quite a lot I think which is where people order parcels and collect them from their local post office maybe on the way to work or on the school run etc. Whenever I deliver a section of absorption with a post office on it there are always 'local collect' items to deliver.

The delivering on Sundays idea is a non-starter except if they put it in the contract for any new posties that they have to work Sundays and have maybe Monday or another weekday off instead. Existing staff will not want to do it.

Sunday/evening/timed deliveries are mostly for the benefit of the retailers. Or rather, to get the contracts from the big retailers.

The thinking behind this on their end is "If our customers can't get our widgets/shirts/whatever immediately, they'll go to another website." So, yeah, it's just keeping up with the Joneses for us.

Sunday premium is right under £6 an hour. Even if it's only for half a shift, I don't think volunteers will be a problem.

As far as parcel boxes are concerned, this is another example of the government doing wrong by us. If they hadn't closed 99.999% of the existing post offices over the last few years, we wouldn't need them.

At the heart of our Group strategy is a five-year transformation plan for Royal Mail in the UK. We will invest around £1.8bn to change and grow our business.

The number of UK domestic letters in our mailbag is forecast to decline by around 26% over the next five years*.

We have done a comprehensive review of our business. All the analysis told us that we have to change.

We will extend our network to handle Next Day, large parcels and small Tracked items more efficiently.

Will introduce a second daily delivery for larger items and parcels purchased online from retailers the evening before. This will be fully operational by 2023.
Three new fully-automated parcel hubs will be built to handle Next Day, large and smaller Tracked parcels. A separate van delivery for these items will be routed through potentially 200-300 of our large Delivery Offices.
This will reduce the cost of handling all parcels, including small items.
We have informed our union about our plan. We are committed to working collaboratively with our unions on the strategy, detailed design and deployment, including a trial for separate van delivery.

Renewed focus on productivity: we will improve existing processes, embed new digitally-enabled work tools and introduce a major increase in parcel sorting automation. We are aiming for a cumulative improvement of 15-18% over five years.

New initiatives for customers and e-retailers: we will collect returns from consumers at home; offer more inflight redirections for individual parcels; and introduce 1,400 parcel postboxes, as announced on Monday.

This is a demanding change programme and will be carefully sequenced over five years: we anticipate an hours reduction of around 3% a year. We are committed to working carefully and considerately with our unions and our colleagues. We have a good track record of delivering change sensitively through natural turnover, redeployment and voluntary redundancy wherever possible. In line with current agreements, we will continue to deliver change without compulsory redundancies.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

I haven't read all the announcement or the video yet but this sounds much like the original plan to move parcels to LAT hubs but maybe ALL the tracked items as well. I presume they think that will be enough time savings to drop 1 in 6 walks and add 20% more delivery points to the remaining walks.
Are the CWU going to announce a ballot for strike action as they originally stated ?
