DECKY BOY. HARD WON BY THE UNION. You mean when we lost all the allowances for driving, forklift, nda, nda on all docket, some of us lost paid meal relief, loss of sat premium, loss of early shift allowance, loss of phg grade, loss of pension contributions on all wages and allowances, ect, ect. HARD won? The union got raped by RM and then came and told us a bunch of bullying of it didn't go through. And bye the way the delivery supplement will be going soon also.. Also duties starting at 6pm to 01:30 hours and others starting at3.30 in the MCs so that most won't qualify for the night allowance and the pension has just gone without anything in its place except a big fat maybe in the future we will have a fed or whatever blah blah. HARD won FFS. :arrrghhh

Would you rather lose some allowances or be out of a job?

No one said there were more roses in the garden now than there were years ago ! This specific thread relates to the Delivery Supplement (and any correlation it has with the delivery of D2D) I suggest there is none !

I note you are ex- Royal Mail but seem to be privy to what is happening in the Royal Mail board room ? The Delivery Supplement will be going soon also you state ? Please produce your empirical evidence to support this !

You strike me as someone who can stand up for himself but come across as a very angry young ( or old ) man ? I note also that you are ex- Royal Mail and ask purely out of curiosity if you retired, left or got the sack ?

Could they possibly be going to have 1 or 2 day a week duties doing purely d2d?

Surely having separate duties to deliver d2d only can't be efficient? After all we deliver to most, if not all addresses on walks through the course of the week.

If it's more efficient how it's currently done, why are RM considering axing them?

There is virtually no chance of RM 'doing away' with delivering D2Ds as it is a valuable revenue source for them. They like that everything gets delivered at the same time so ideas on posts elsewhere about separating different product delivery are also unlikely to happen. The current proposal to move parcels above shoe box size to the LAT deliveries makes sense only in that the LATs have very little business so far. In every other sense it is a total fail idea especially as the time saved from not delivering large parcels will not equate to a twenty percent increase in walk lengths. It would make much more sense to chase up more business generally and maybe for the LATs in particular if RM wish to keep or develop that service. The trouble is even with retail high street chains & businesses continuing to go bust and online trade increasing RM seem incapable of attracting more business.

Back to the OP. A full time pay slip example:

Basic Pay @ 38 hours. 432.92
RRIS Area 1. 35.00
Delivery Supplement. 15.33
Delivery Supplement. 9.83
Res Rights Driving. 6.00
PSE Adj RMPP DBCBS C. -22.54

The RRIS payment is to do with difficulty in employing staff. Most people don't want to work Saturdays .
The reserved rights driving one is from back when RM made a payment to anyone who had learnt to drive and would do so for RM. New posties won't get paid this now.
The last line is the deduction for the pension. I won't discuss that disaster here!!
Then we come to the two lines of 'delivery supplement' which the OP had questions about. There are differing views on this and I will open up the can of worms by mentioning it. Some of us including myself think that twenty pounds from the total of these supplements is the payment we receive for doing D2Ds and that we receive it 52 weeks of the year. Certainly at the time this is what we were told or led to believe by the union. Other contributors to this forum do and will disagree saying that we do not get paid anything for prepping or delivering D2Ds now.
There are other payments and supplements available in RM such as overtime, scheduled attendence, London waiting, additional payments for staff in MCs etc etc which I haven't included in my example. When we used to get paid for each item of D2D we would get between 1.67 and about 4.75 pence per item depending on size and weight. This was many years ago so the equivalent nowadays allowing for inflation etc would be a lot more. If RM have managed that side of the business well, although it's likely they have made a pigs breakfast of it, they should be making a lot from D2D now.
Regarding part timers and D2D when the old style payments ceased there were probably more full time than part time staff. Nowadays the reverse is probably the state of play at DOs. At our DO at one point years ago we sometimes used a partial double prep system so other posties in theory didn't do prep. It only ever partially worked though and as the OP pointed out part time staff ended up doing prep that they were not contracted, paid, or meant to do. I have no idea what part timers receive in terms of delivery supplements nor do we have any part timers in the traditional sense working in our DO. We have achieved this by having the longest delivery spans in our area which may or may not be a good thing.
To draw this to a conclusion I would say that any postie who is contracted to, or routinely is oblidged or just left to, prep and/or deliver D2Ds should receive payment for doing so if other posties are receiving payment to do so.

The can of worms is now opened.........

Some posters on this forum have mentioned rumours of the letters being separated from packets/parcels, different products being delivered on alternate days, and the USO being renegotiated or dropped in the dustbin entirely!
Usually on this forum the most concrete and reliable information will either come from 'dingo' who usually seems to find the latest news out first. The moderators of this site and the union LTBs also usually give reliable information out on any changes being discussed. None of these sources have yet mentioned separation of mail types other than moving large parcels to LAT deliveries. The only firm that has tried every other day delivery so far was Whistl and they virtually went bust!

You haven't factored in the fact they still get it paid when there are fewer D2D, when they are on holiday and when they are sick.
For a duty of 600 calls each D2D would have paid out £10 against the PT delivery supplement which I think started at £12? So discounting annual leave that's £480pa against £600pa if the average amount of D2D was one per week. I don't know about your office but our average amount of D2D is certainly above two.
Wasn’t part of that “deal” the removal of the ceiling on the number of D2D’s? Another great deal unravels!

I think the standard limit for the number of D2D items per week is six although on odd occasions we have had seven items. I don't think this is a universal limit and some cities or other locations can or do get more than six items per week.

Decoy boy. Yes I can stand up for myself. I'm 51 years of age. I left RM to go to another job. I have a sibling who is pretty high up in RM so get more insight to what's happening than most reps. Oh and I was in the Royal Navy before I came into the post office in 91. Anything more you want to know? :cuppa
