a lot aren't really managers 1 they're glorified foreman/supervisors with thier own supervisors over them i.e . the SM ,DUM etc 2 Style is Command & Control or more like ignore when it suits them ,according to Senior Management 3 Just pawns in L&C's little game , what other organisation would tolerate 66% being average /below average , lacking motivational /man management skills & command & ignore

What other business would tolerate so much petty politics , lack of professonalisim , little or no training + vocational education , petty vendettas instead of running things and /or a business ? or a management structure purely for the benefit of managers inside it + such a poor culture & general morale ?

Alot of the old DOM and line managers where ex army and could be hard but they also where fair unlike the shower of shite they have now.

There are a tiny minority of good managers left

Post by andy2007 »

Surprising as it may sound. There is a tiny minority of people who go into management for the right reasons, and with the right attitude. But I have only met one.

As for having him stuffed. Don't do that, they're virtually extinct already!

Sorry but I've seen it all in another industry & there's a few on here that are ex Telecom /Utilities etc .

The old school managers who'd take someone into a office & shout at them , got sidelined & ganged up on as they'd "too many old fashioned ideas". apparently you had to have a "market thrust ", some of them certainly wanted "thrusting " for their half baked , harebrained ideas . Also there was no place for you if you wern't committed , some of those lunatics should have been ! .

I can remember the Staff Association rep for the clerks etc, carrying round one particular area manager's none too flattering press cuttings where the main union had shopped him to the papers .To go to the media was a sackable offence but it happened .

Many were only too happy to take the money as they felt they were being undermined and "couldn't work with those idiots in charge . "

All you end up with is Animal House Management where you just get corruption & clones .

The best example was a manager who was in charge of a whole region from London , Central & Mid Wales , Midlands etc to Carlise writing a off message book . He joined the main union campaigning against this botched privatisation .

He said a good rep would take me to bits and put me back together again as he'd the service's best interests at heart , but there was too many who thought the union was full of reds under the bed and discipline was to ensure people didn't do things again not petty vendettas/politics to solve "personalty clashes " which is classic ulitarian management .

A lot of them don't have personalties or if they do it's a very flawed one . Leighton works on the US corporate ideal that he's the personalty of the company , that's why he's got clones spouting mid 90's David Brent style buzzwords & gibberish . All about selling something you haven't got & the emperor's new clothes .

It's OK getting rid of people and having people who parrot this & that out but it's when it goes wrong you need experience and that's why RM lurches from one panic driven crisis to another .

Also the UK is different from Holland , Holland has multi-occupancy buildings with communal entrances & letter boxes . Collecting bin bags from outside houses is different from delivering mail.

Please will someone Post it on here then, so that we can see it?

It could be a great help in the coming months. Without it, we can't prove anything.

Failed posties and glorified office boys. One thing they aren't is managers. Overpaid bag tippers, tray shifters, York shunters, shiny arsed pen pushers, certainly, but to refer to these creeps as 'managers' does the English language no favours at all. The biggest shower of strike breakers and 'yes' men this side of the Third Reich. Witless, clueless morons who wouldn't be missed if they all died tonight.

If i didn't know better i would have thought that you worked in the same office as me, are they all like this

I totally agree. If a manager gets no form of training they become puppets. I find this very dangerous because managers find themsleves being totally controled by their superiors and do what they are told whether it is wrong or right without questioning. If the managers do not get proper training I think them and postmen/women will be forever at each others throats and I think this is what has happened a Burslem.

Burslem apart ,because it was a test area, an oddity,an RM toe in the water so to speak.

Most DOM's are unaware of the true implications of the 2007 agreement.

Our people need to be fully aware of the command and control structure of todays RM

Local Dom's are give a touchy feely nice presentation by Allan, they swallow it ,cos theres a fat bonus.

Area DSM's get a seperate presentation, which says take them for all you can get,do well and there is a career step change for you

At least I know what it pushing some managers to behave the way that they do, and you are very right, I have heard that some managers are frightened of losing their jobs or being demoted, therefore, they do what they are told. The thing is, if a manager knows that something that they are asked to do is unacceptable or might be unlawful, how can they follow it through and how may managers do you know that have been demoted, side stepped or lost their jobs because they have challenged their superiors.

Seen it in our place more than ever this past few weeks. Line managers (who would normally be ok) absolutely bullied into blind obedience of whatever DUM says - and the guy is a compulsive liar. They are scared to death by a weak little man who is scared to death that he won't impress other DUM's or be seen not to fully obey the commands of higher management.

All of this Stalinist management tosh does nothing to serve the customers - it only exists to serve the management cartel that leeches off Royal Mail.

That the public purse is being abused by said cartel should surely be a topic of investigation by the papers?
