Personally I LOVE driving and chomp at the bit to be the driver when on a vanshare duty and I'll HAPPILY go out on packet duties at the end of the day if and when needed. Too many whingers at RM. Yes the company is a bit of a s**t show, but it's not that bad.
I'm a reserve who covers the driver or passenger duties of those who are off sick/on holiday and frankly I'd say you'd have to be a bit mental to prefer the driver side of the fence - it's more responsibility, a larger workload and more stress for no extra money, but hey, different strokes for different folks I suppose.
It's more responsibility sure, with having to look after the specials etc, but on the vanshare I'm usually plonked on (sometimes as passenger but usually as driver), the drivers duty is definitely shorter, as it's supposed to be but I understand that it hasn't worked out that way across the country, surprise surprise!
Though we share the rounds anyway so the differing sizes of the duties are irrelevant

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

what makes you automatically presume the driver finishes his loops before the passenger and has time to go fdeliver stirs?
in all the offices i have been to , its usually the driver that has the longer loops and comes back to see the passenger inside the van eating a twix?

You should be working as a team so the driver will be delivering reg and large items while the walker does a loop on their own. It may be the case that some days the reg is on the early deliveries so their is no need to do solo loops. Adjusting the loops to even them up is easy enough.

so what does the passenger do when the driver has to then go do his own loops?
for example each team has 5 loops each and there loops are based from several stop points.
so when van is in stop point a, driver and walker does loops
b same again etc
no time for driver to shoot and do anything as the loops are more or less the same / heavier on one side.
you must be working in a entire different region as you think the driver has the time to go do the above without doing his own loops.

Swap the loops
tried to on a walk i did before, walker was not having none of it, why would he want to when he knows his got it easier.

Nothing to do with region, everything to do with planner getting it wrong and duty holder not telling him and getting it put right.
The driver is supposed to have smaller loops, or at least some smaller loops, so he can get big packets done.
You can't swap loops as driver's loop might be around farms etc needing the van.
planner you mean some guy sent from elsewhere that does not know the terrain whose been tasked to add things on to a preexisting walk while making it easier on one side...... that my friend is simply not the case, generally liek i have said i been to various offices, the drivers loops are bigger, or the walkers are choosing which loops they want and palming the rest off as drivers loops, in any case it stinks.
i still believe drivers allowances must come back as its simply not fair, 2 people in a share van, van gets ticket, only driver has to pay said fine.
road rage, agression directed towards driver ........
