Asking nicely, explaining your concerns and how this change is effecting you can go a long way.

It's the same as if you're asked to do overtime, if you're told
"There's no one to do it so I expect you to complete" (and threatening you ect)

That illicits a completely different reaction than someone asking
"We're really struggling today, is there any chance you could do a bit extra today please?"
Should not management be more communicative with the staff and more resourceful in any eventuality for their day to day planing and staffing going forward with change is that what they are paid to do MANAGE!
Communication is a two way street. I have no idea what his manager is like, so (unlike you it seems) I'm not going to assume the worst.

There are good and bad managers just as there are good and bad postman.
I agree.

Ok well thanks for your help i guess i will have to look for another job which is a shame i like being a postman.
As you're not looking for Collection OT why not try and get another Early PT job. One that can be done before your Royal Mail start time. Cleaning's always a good one. :hmmmm

When the mail inevitably starts to pick up again your Manager will be around asking you to work more Over Time. You need to think about your reply. If you have another PT job you can say no thanks, you don't necesssarily have to Jack the RM job completely.

I know how infuriating this situation is, but Mangers don't give a shite about you or your personal situation....it's all about cutting their budget. Ironically you've probably got Over Time Bandits in your Office racking up 15 hours plus over time a week while he's stiffing you for 10 hours! :no no It's wrong but it's hard to fight, especially if your a Newbie that doesn't really know what the "Rules" are. If you've got a Good Unit Rep you could chat to him and ask him to bring it up at the Resourcing Meeting (where they're meant to discuss how much OT is needed etc). Good Luck :thumbup
Like all Wage Slaves, he had two crosses to bear: The people he worked for and the people he worked with! (Stephen Vizinczey.)
