The author was Cornelius Ryan & while it is over 500 pages, it is well worth it, as it is full of things that couldn't be fitted into the film ( such as the small group of paras surrendering to the Waffen SS troops many of whom were veterans of Stalingrad, being told how good they were at street fighting, that they must have trained hard for it, only for a corpral to chirp up, "No, it's our first go - but don't worry, we'll do much better next time!"disgruntledpostie1 wrote:freespeech wrote:A "Bridge Too Far" was a film about Operation Market Garden at Arnhem in the Netherlands...............L Tommo wrote:WOT ABOUT...?freespeech wrote:Nice reference missed by many! Later starts are a result of pure jealousy. The DIMS know this, thats why they cannot answer any questions now.
Our area manager or whatever he is called (Pugwash) spoke about postmen finishing early and he nearly spat at us as he talked. They hate it so they bring in later starts to inconvenience us.
Its very simple.
The job should get done as early as possible.

I think the unions in for a shock.
We all saw on our CWU notice boards letters going to Royal mail from the union, argueing against later starts and that postcomm thought there was no need for them. Then I get a letter from CWU saying that later starts were never on the agenda.
I think we couild a three way split. Management vs CWU vs workers.

Well we have dropped high street bags at the same place for many years. A new caretaker came in and through the bags on the street on her first day.dongash wrote:i have to do my walk in a different order on a saturday as my main bag drop place closes at 12 !!!! i am not on my own with this problem. some places have withdrawn the use of their properties as bag drops' as we don't get our mail any earlier!!!![]()

Thing is, we all know that the xmas pressure starts in a week anyway. Xmas is already upon us, so to make out the pressure is just 2 weeks is ludicrous as well.Ricky Bruch wrote:Lets just hope that we have the biggest christmas ever, and it all goes t!ts up as we aint able to cope with the volume, all the manual sorting in DO`s, drivers submerged under a mountain of parcels and we are all working to our NEW 318`s![]()
Think the general public might have something to say..... Then again I live in hope, too fuc$ing lazy to do that...
Those line managers and DIM's are going to be pounding the streets xmas eve at 11.00pm mark my words.

i wonder if they will want us to go back to 05.00 for xmas pressure?
the later starts in our office have been a complete failure with time locks for bag drops or for entry being closed firms going ballistic and cut offs all over the place. i am a firms driver and we start at 5 but we still have to wait for the work to be sorted to be able to get out which means we are getting out over an hour later than before!! Idiots dont even answer the phone or speak to the public who ring up and complain they have no answers and they avoid the public at all costs. WHAT A f***ing WAY TO RUN A BUSINESS!!
