Get your head from out of your arse, we're a parcel business now. Virtually all the MS3 has gone over to DSA, people want their parcels on a Saturday. How about RM employ weekend staff to do say Fri-Mon deliveries (like it or not, Sunday delivery will happen whether we like it or not - probably within 2 years absolute tops). Then RM could cut your hours or make you do collections everyday or they could axe your job.

Wake up and smell the coffee! :cuppa
Telling someone to get their head out of their arse when they are only passing on what is Royal Mail policy, and goes on in a Delivery Office on a daily basis, over which he has no control - is not exactly conducive to a debate.

Also if people want their parcels on a Saturday why is it that saturday is traditionally for me the day I have to return most parcels back to the office.
The amount of parcels that get p739d is going to vary from walk to walk, maybe people where you live either have Saturday jobs or are out on a day trip, down the park but elsewhere. If a parcel was posted to me 1c on a Friday or 2c on a Thursday I would epect to recieve it on the Saturday. If people don't deliver stuff on the day it's due then they're just leaving themselves wide open to a willful delay charge when the dom wants to get rid of people cheaply. If delivering the MS3 takes people to their time and they still have stuff left to deliver they need to either cut off or claim overtime. :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :cuppa

Now I see your confusion - Posties are not refusing to deliver parcels or MS3.

The managers are not getting parcel duties covered on a saturday, allegedly because of the USO, they just let them carry over into the Monday.

MS3 is being deliberately put to one side on IPS and left till Monday - again a management decision.

As I said the "head out of arse" comment was incorrectly targeted.

You get your rep to write a letter to your area rep and explain you want the higher 6p per CARD not house payment. Once you have both on side you approach (in writing) the Dom and Som and request the payment. If they refuse (most likely) you call a meeting and explain to the staff that you will be following the IR frame work and will ask for support in objecting to delivering the work till the matter is settled.

Its a long drawn out process and you wont get it this time around but hopefully you will capture it on the general elections. Its worth fighting for.

Are you sure its TNT and not local council members. They are doing ours.

What about non addressed leaflets. I thought RM had already won this work. :hmmmm

Phoenix, I agree with TBT that some of your comments don't really help the debate.It seems pretty arrogant of you to be lecturing Delivery Staff on what they should and shouldn't be doing. We're aware of what the system should be doing but the difference between that and the real world of Delivery is quite considerable :shock:

They main reason I believe we get paid for delivering polling cards is because they're a bloody pain in the ass......compare how many of those cards you can squeeze in a tray compared to letters. I'm sure if we'd had a vote on it the Mail Centres would be getting a portion of the payment, as happened with the Households (A Brilliant Coup by the CWU) :arrrghhh

Yeah comments like that are very helpful.

I would suggest if you are trying to state I am wrong you should try and back up what you are saying with some checkable facts,

The person who is asking for advice, and you just saying I'm wrong is not helping them, what are they meant to do? Go to their dom and say spacepheonix told me this or that, I can see the doms reply now, but having links to agreements etc gives

Whilst I may agree with your opinions, they are only that, opinions, and as such don't really help people especially when they are different to currently in force agreements and the USO

my reason for starting this thread was to ask who pays the extra premium, which was answered.
i just assumed with 3 local authorities in ours and it varied with the timescale to deliver meant that 1 was doing it different by not using RM to get a cheaper deal (for the tax payer) yet a more superior service?
yet the 3.5p was said before any arrived,
then i read on here it can go up to 6p depending where you are,
as i said, our union rep says its 3.5p all over the UK with no exceptions and that's it, no inquiries needed by him.
here, we all live in bubbles, the internet is considered a great goal, and posties always deflect wide of the net

Your rep is wrong. When was the last time he attended a meeting. There was one about 3 weeks ago which election payments were a topic. :hmmmm

It's no wonder reps resign when delivery staff don't help themselves. It's a classic case of DO staff shooting themselves in the foot. If the doms were stopped from doing that, they'd have to put hours into an office and maybe jobs.@zx135 how many part timers do you have at your office? I bet a good few of them would jump at the chance for more hours

It's probably not been noticed by posties in delivery but probably at least a quarter of items we send through to you as parcels should technically be sent through to you as large letters.

.......... but because we get paid for them individually we have to count them as we prep them. And they're mixed in with other machinable mail.
They are a pain in the arse, trust me :cuppa

Get your head out of the MC :left: :left: (tis a joke)

You're nearly right, once prepped and in the frame they are fairly easy to deliver if you prep them correctly - but its getting them into the frame in the first place thats the difficult part.

About 10% arrived sequenced at my office the rest arrived intermixed and in no discernable order, not even duty sequenced never mind walk sequenced.

The ones that were sequenced were difficult to handle as they stuck together when 2 addresses next to each other had them meaning you had to split them to get them in the frame, slowing down the prep. Also once they were in the frame if you had large mail for the 1st house of a double slot you had to break the cards apart to get the new mail in, if you didn't you risk mis delivering at the doorstep. Splitting poll cards at the door step is not recommended by me at least as you only have one hand free and I avoid it where possible.

Why, its not against current agreements, its not against the USO and finally even the the DOMs bosses, and Auditors (from the Geographic HQ) are aware. they were in doing an audit on one Saturday and were very picky over the redirections, Saturday retentions and Safe Keeping, no mention was made of MS3. Mine, like others, was prepped into the frame for delivery on Monday. If it was against anything it would have been flagged up at the time in the Audit report.

From: http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2011/5/section/31" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
31Minimum requirements

This section sets out the services that must, as a minimum, be included in a universal postal service.

Requirement 1: delivery of letters or other postal packets
(1)

At least one delivery of letters every Monday to Saturday—
(1)
(a)

to the home or premises of every individual or other person in the United Kingdom, or
(b)

to such identifiable points for the delivery of postal packets as OFCOM may approve.
(2)

At least one delivery of other postal packets every Monday to Friday to the places within paragraph (1)(a) or (b).
(3)

The references in this requirement to the delivery of letters or other postal packets include the delivery of packets posted outside the United Kingdom.
There is nothing there to say that 2nd class or mailsort letters and flats can be left over the weekend so they should get delivered on a Saturday. Well over 20% of the small parcels that get sent to DOs fall within the size limits of large letters so they should be delivered as well.

tbt the poll cards probably either arrived late at your local MC or your local MC is short on staff (the most likely reason - MCs are run on overtime)

Small parcels are delivered by the walking posties - so thats covered. Its the large parcels delivered by drivers, usually collection staff in my office who don't work Saturdays, that are left by management till monday - and as pointed out thats not against the USO.

As to Mail sort 3 - I am checking for a more recent confirmation but in June 2005 http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/binaries/post/148.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; PostCom (ofcom predecessor) said in a document
In the meantime all of Royal Mail’s bulk mail products (except Presstream and Mailsort 3) will continue to be provided on a universal service basis;
2011 http://www.brightsource.co.uk/vat-on-po ... ar-as-mud/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Postcomm had defined Mailsort 1 and 2 as part of the universal service obligation (USO)… but Mailsort 3 sat outside of the USO.
