I don't really see how sticking a barcode on will make life any easier.
How small is your office
60 deliveries callers office runs to two rooms. smaller items kept on lettered shelves under counter, larger items on lettered shelves in second room. we had a third set of shelves for tracked items but DOM has done away with that, tracked items go on big packet shelves.

Too right. Trying to find a packet with no name on the card???

You've been trained so no excuses.

Getting the date wrong or mispelling a name I can understand as it's human nature.

Packets are stored by surname!!!

Personally anyone who doesn't fill in the cards correctly should have to do a few hours in the callers office!

And don't get me started on the parcels that weren't slip left yet bought back to the office as if they were. Many customers come in knowing they are expecting a parcel but were never left a red card so we have to hunt high and low with only a rough date to go by.

And of course that old customer favourite "he didn't knock, ring the bell, I was in, the dog never barked, he just pushed the card through" - and how does the callers office staff respond?

Well I just tell them it's time consuming filling out the red cards so it's highly unlikely they wouldn't have knocked first.

Suppose the item has no bar code ? then what ?

He means every postie having a role of caller offices bar codes to put on every form left, even if they have a bar code already.

Date, time , surname, house number & last 3 or 4 digits of postcode is all that really needed on the front. Number of items, tick letter or parcel. too large for letterbox, scribble & walk number, I never put reference number unless its a sticky one.
What do you do?

Full name if possible so it is clear who needs to bring ID to collect the item.
Always put the barcode if appropriate as it allows tracking of the item in case of any problems.

Is it somewhere in the CSP, or left at the bottom of a bag?

It’s not hard to feel a P739 out, if you can’t you shouldn’t be in a job

Try scanning a barcode/2D on the door step with a redelivery when the callers office staff have placed the printed booking reference sticker OVER the barcode!! Stood on the doorstep in the pissing down rain whilst the customer is looking at you like you're thick as s**t!!!
YOU'VE BEEN TRAINED SO NO BASTARD EXCUSE!!!
I've worked the callers office many times and it's not hard asking the customer for their postcode which you input into the computer then match the house number and the name with their ID

We need all the info on ours.
Doesn't bother me, as if item gets lost in the callers office, they can't blame me if I've put reference number on it.
Without reference number, the assumption, initially anyways, is that I've not handed it back in.

Is it really fair to face possible conduct over this when hundreds of 739s get written when only a tiny fraction might not be fully complete?
Yes its fair, do your job properly.

Its not hard too spell correctly, if you can't you shouldn't post on a forum.

See how crass that is

Also don't forget we can recognise your sock accounts and as we have said before post what you want, as long as you follow the rules you won't be kicked. If you don't, you will be kicked. Simples.
