Re: Could this mean Sunday Delivery ?
I just don't think either the consumers or the retailers are going to be up for this on a large enough scale, to make it profitable, as I said some businesses might be interested in Sunday collections, but I think to few will want to pay a premium for Sunday delivery. Most people would wait the extra day. I might not be an average consumer, but if I can get an item at the shops anywhere near the online price, I would choose the shop every time, I haven't bought anything on line in the past 6 months, that would be cheaper after adding a delivery premium.fishtank wrote:janitor wrote: amazon alone would not be able to make Sunday delivery profitable.
You are assuming that Royal Mail would be stupid enough to walk into this on a national scale without testing the market first, They are far more likely to trial it on a small scale in areas where they think there is a market for it and build it up from there.

Who said you'd pay a premium for a Sunday delivery?
Stuff in the shops doesn't cost more on a Sunday so why should a Sunday delivery cost more?

Stuff in the shops doesn't cost any more on a Saturday, it doesn't stop online retailers charging extra for Saturday delivery, and RM ain't going to charge a standard rate for Sunday. It won't recoup its costs by charging standard rate.

The only difference is staff costs on a Sunday, but that'll change soon enough. Better for RM as they can give staff days off on the lighter week days instead.

Its all about a balance, Parcels maybe spread more evenly through a seven day service, Instead of a six day service. There will always be peak days just as with letters,Tman wrote:The only difference is staff costs on a Sunday, but that'll change soon enough. But a letter (In massive Decline) is much smaller than a parcel. Online Shopping is growing faster, And a faster delivery is what the customers wants. Customers will love parcels delivered
on a Sunday, As much as "We love parcels".
May Start at a premium service with employees on more pay, But for how Long. There is a lot of jobs out there now that don't pay extra to new
employees for working on Sundays.
When becoming more profitable, But Talks are in progress, And other Couriers Slowly Starting already, Times will change.
But lets Worry about this later, Live for now and worry about tomorrow.
