We all know that an Opt Out is more effective than an Opt in.

I am not saying that personally I want to receive from the CWU but it is a way for them to pass on their information and it is up to them to pursue such an opportunity.

This just ties in with the thread about 'How to sell the CWU' and comments about CWU not being able to afford the same coverage and frequency in propaganda or info as RM.

It will not hurt that when they send out their missive to encourage people to include their email.

* I cannot even remember when I joined whether the option or such a field to enter was there. What about those that joined before the email or IT revolution.

Anyway, just a thought. Although we do not currently have a rep we do receive stuff from time to time but of course, it might be put up by PHG or not - not his job

It's a legal requirement that it's an Opt in.
The Voice magazine always carries a section covering sign up to the CWU website.
The union also has a large presence on Twitter,Youtube and Facebook as well as most local branches having their own websites.
The information is out there if members can be arsed looking for it.
There's always this place as well.

I will go and look at the membership form - if it is online.

I do not understand why it might be a legal requirement to Opt In when most other organisation just simply ask for your email and then say if you do not want to be contacted in such a way put an ' X' here.

Like I said, it is up to the CWU to go after the members... The activists or ubber-interested Unionist will search for CWU or Union information but the large majority will not and should be encourage to do. It is part of educating them, keeping them informed, interested and maintaining their interest and above all their money.

I am not an activist or a Unionist type. I am relatively happy with my job - my membership of the Union is an insurance policy taken out against my colleagues, customers and managers. So far, I have not needed it! I just like to get on with my job!!

Q. What is stopping you raising this inequality with your line manager/DOM.

Forget about them running around, coming early, not taking breaks and such, these are their excuses for them to give to the manager. Your issue/gripe/grievance is that you are both paid to the same time and yet ROYAL MAIL let this person go home early. Dont forget that. The union doesn't allow this Royal Mail do!
Yeah why not take a grievance out against RM for treating others more favourably or you less equally. You don't want to be treated any better or worse, just the same.

Please don't reply with "it's not my job it's the unions".
Honestly, i'm sick and tired of the its' not my job brigade don't become one of those.
if you have a problem raise it informally at first, which you have, now you have to go formal.

Postie B shouldn't be worried about Postie A

Postie B should just be doing his job within timeframes, keeping his head down and not worrying about other what other Posties do in the office.

Postie A does not pay your mortgage or feed your kids or put petrol in your car so why be concerned ?

There will always be people that do things different / faster/quicker etc etc but if you are doing your job correct then no-one can moan at you.

If you are a lot slower and continue to cut off / book O/T most days, then you need to look at the areas where the time is being lost and re evaluate that - If there is no time to make up, then discuss walk with Rep/Line manager and take it from there.

No worries Postie A and Postie B have reached a new understanding, have discovered a new respect for each other so much so they have decided to set up home together. Postie A being so much quicker will make the tea and light the scented candles in the bathroom for his new best mate before sitting down together for a sumptuous plate of beans on toast.
