indeed. Royal Mail has something of a history of local strikes, yet not much talk of strikes anywhere with all the trouble of revisions suggests strikes certainly are unlikely.

Brighton the SFMB national agreement in 1987 allowed offices to move to a z5 day week but it's was not compulsory. Whilst offices did move to a 5 day week , the majority continued to work 6 days per week until the Pay and Major Change agreement which ceased the second delivery made the 5 day week mandatory.

Working to rule and working to time were alternatives put forth back in October 2009, at least here, but were dismissed because the union couldn't ensure members were following the action - whereas a picket line is a deterrent to those who would consider breaking a strike. Besides, there are already people not claiming hours of OT and the people who could enforce it (management) are the ones who least want to see it happen. Unfortunately I don't think the union's current collaboration, I mean co-operation is yielding much either.

Work to rules and overtime bans are always risky as what happens if a manager takes an indivdual or indivduals off pay for not in their eyes working in line with their contract. This happen lots in 2007 and 2009 and whilst a tribunal victory was won by Streatham it was 12 months later. Most offices if indivduals are taken off pay either decide to walk in support of their colleagues which is unoffical action or stop working to rule in fear that they will be next.
