Newsflash: Ed Balls gets CWU backing

Fortunately none of my money will be backing Billy Bunter and his Balls.

It is time the membership of the CWU woke up to the woeful fact that neither the CWU nor the Labour party have any interest whatsoever in their well being, pay, pensions or terms and conditions. There may well have been a meeting on the pension BUT there was a ballot promised AND the pension being removed from the original ballot wasn't for the benefit of the membership. There was also a motion to remove financial support from the Labour Party which WAS passed and the outcome?

And as for supporting the Labour Party in opposition wtf for - they did absolutely FA in Government and are as toothless as the CWU in opposition - still if it gives some people a sense of importance at someone else expense.

As dingo says the Condems are going to do more harm than the 2010 Agreement?????????????????????? Is that an admission that the agreement wasn't up to scratch then?

I did notice this in the story though...

Members vote by postal ballot and do not have to follow the advice given by their union. This year, the Labour Party's Procedures Committee has tightened the rules, to end the practice under which union members would get a ballot paper and advice on which candidate to vote all in one package. Unions have been told that they may advise their members on how to vote, but must do so in a separate mailing.

How dare they...that's not how they like to do things at the CWU.

Of course not it is democracy by diktat - might turn out to be embarrassing if they back the wrong horse - but who cares really, not much chance of any influence whilst the labour party is in opposition, having said that there wasn't a helluva lot whilst in power

Belle smith there will be announcement within the next couple of weeks by the trustees who will confirm twofold one the new record pension deficit and the second that a potential deal has been reached to pay the deficit over a longer time period ( over 38 years )

The pension regulator will then make an announcement and then the Government will announce their plans which includes taking over our pension assets including the 24 billion pounds of investments.

Now as someone who attended the two Northampton national briefings when pensions was being discussed I can tell you apart from London there were not many branch"s in the uk jumping up and down at the prospect of fighting on it.

In my opinion our union betrayed us too.
Not true in your case, okay i'm happy to take you at your word on that...you were up for fighting on it.
But the members were only asked in the form of a consultative ballot, we should have been balloted for strike action, and it's not the fault of the members that we weren't.
