There's nothing wrong with this union. You have no idea what they do for you as you only hear part of it. Get involved and you would soon change your mind.

[dont be stupid our union is represented by former postman and the main problem we have is the idiots who come in early and run round ect.
[/b]This is probably the best deal we could of got just remember its RM policy to destroy the CWU so whether unison or unite oh by the way know the job is done 1200 managers to go.
Support your union and its is a bad deal but all i hear is the strike breakers especially in my office saying they wont vote for this but guess what they worked over time on strike days a union needs support and unless you get 100% to walk out what can you do I say this weve done our best but until 100% walk out you wont get a good deal and its alright to dis the union but why work on your day of and vote against this agreememnt thre union is not just for ypu you need to show solidarity and as far as im concerned you make your bed you have to lie in it

As an ex-civil servant I would recommend The Public and Commercial Service Union (PCS) as an alternative.

They've been well led by a true Socialist called Mark Serwotka for about a decade.

He took charge in his mid-thirties and, unlike our CWU leaders, is in touch with his membership. I look forward to his appearances on tv or radio cos he's a smart cookie who states his case in a cool, concise and fluent manner.

In contrast, I cringe when dinosaurs Billy Hayes or Unites' Derek Simpson ramble on in front of the nation, wasting valuable opportunities to generate much needed public support.

If nobody from within CWU can generate support to oppose our current under-performing leadership then lets migrate en masse to PCS.

PCS has 300,000 members including Revenue and Customs, who can pull the plug on a good part of the government's income, should they choose to withdraw their labour in support of their postal siblings. Handy leverage during disagreeable governance!

At present PCS are in the midst of industrial action over changes to redundancy terms . Watch this space!

Must admit Serwotka is very impressive. Heard him ripping a govt. minister to shreds the other day over their pension issues. He let the guy babble on about gold plated public pensions then wiped the floor with him, reminding him that for 50years the excuse for pisspoor public pay levels was 'well you get a good pension' :left: :Applause :Applause

What you mean how they do with the royal mail managers?? you mean how they stand by and do nothing whilst their members cross our picket lines and try to crush us??
Imagine that it could not be beyond the bounds of possibility that your local rep attending disciplinary interviews is the Manager issuing them. Able to leap the table with one bound :chuckle :chuckle :chuckle :chuckle

Hang on a minute, some postal workers don't "withdraw their labour in support of their postal siblings" so why would other workers in other industries?
Funny how other unions always seem so attractive though {especially from the outside looking in..}

Join in any other union you want, but RM will only negotiate with the CWU, so it's all ultimately just hot air.

Dogs of War wrote:Lovejoy Unite are not afraid of the employer thats why the BA staff are striking. Just remember we had Royal Mail by the balls but the CWU chickened out. Now we have a really poor deal after 4 months of talking, so get your facts right lovejoy.
Try doing a bit more research...... the BA workers are striking despite of their union not because of it....

The talks in BA have been going on for over a year so not exactly quick to this point were they!

Unite has 2million members and you base the decision that they are a great union on a few thousand of them taking action?? .... if UNITE are so solidly behind the strikers then why aren't they threatening the Labour government with withdrawel of finances (as the CWU have done) until the situation is resolved.

All people need to know about UNITE in my opinion is that their joint general secretaries did f**k all to stop Scab managers undermining our dispute. They wouldn't even put out a statement asking them to stop......... this in my eyes makes them just as bad as the lowlife snakes doing our work........ If that is your version of a trade union I would hate to what you call right wing!!!

Whilst the deal might not be great it is probably the best we could get. Most of all don't forget one of the main reasons we went on strike, that was RM were just doing what they wanted when they wanted by executive action. It was they who broke the 2007 agreement and they were out to break the union. What ever you say you would be right in it if it were not for the union. Also don't forget what RM's offer was, NO INCREASE, so a bad deal or RM's original which do you prefer. One last thing, we still need to vote on this, the way the papers talk it's in. RM are making people redundant but at least we should get a say in this and all future changes which is something else this deal gives us. If you were one of the people who went out on strike to support the union, good of you, for those who did not and carried on working you don't deserve a say in this deal but I bet if this or any other deal comes in you will still take the rewards that are on offer won't you? Just like all of you who can't be bothered to join the union.

Might I just point out that RM have been completely routed on the EA issue. THe CWU has ensured that management will never be able to use EA ,totally outplayed RM by agreeing to everything they could ever want :chuckle

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Don't forget the RM's EA was also to cut hours as they liked as well as everythnig else. Played right this deal and the fact that the unoin have a say will stop that. Having said that RM's history regarding agreements is crap as they don't keep to them. So what's going to happen a couple of years down the line? That is if we don't get sold off. I don't want to get political but lets face it one party will probably want another crack at it even if they say it's only a %age and not all of it ( though will start with a bit and then more ) or the other party that WILL sell the lot?????
