The real challenge for the CWU will be to appeal to the part-timers and youngsters. Without these any influence the CWU might have in the workplace will be long gone and all the "power" will be in the hands of the managers.
I reckon the 75% ft ratio will appeal to the majority of pters. But Im worried about the wording. Its seems to indictate a national ratio 75/25, rather than across the country. What is the current ratio atm?

but how many people get involved, go to meetings and stuff, until it affects them directly? as people keep saying, we are the union, you can't just expect to sit around doing nothing and wait for other people to do everything for you.

Actually those are extracts from the CURRENT RM/CWU agreement on d2d which has been in place since 1993 or there abouts. D2D is currently prepped and delivered IN DUTY TIME at a rate of 20% per day and time is allowed within duty for prepping to occur. I recently wrote to the CWU about this and was assured this is the current position.

As Postman said the new proposed system will mean d2d is included in pegasus calculations etc. meaning duties should be shorter -
or more likely more outside time will be allocated.

But they AREN'T protecting our conditions and pay! Not nationally anyway. But do agree more strong local rep involvement should lead to fewer bully-boy managers getting away with it.

clashcity you say the challenge for the CWU is to appeal to part timers, do you think this agreement does that?

This Agreement does not protect the members of the union but the union itself and therefore those officials that are withdrawn from duties or paid by the union.
Why with all these redundancies and people pulling out from the union would we need the same number of full time union officials. They have cut a del to protect themselves and not to protect the members rights and wages.

It is a Sell out and I will be voting NO.

No is the simple answer to that. Listening to the p/timers in my office over the last 48 hrs leaves me in no doubt.
Longer term the CWU needs to prove that it is a relevant organisation for the p/timers.

Members of the CWU first, CWU second. That makes more sense to me.

No, the CWU is there to protect it's members first.
IF it does that it's position in the workplace is assured because it is defended by the strength of the membership.
If it fails to protect it's membership it will wither and die.

Are D2D's seriously going to be pro-rata?

I'm on 32.5 hours, i'm essentially going to be paid a little over 3/4's of what a full timer will get for the same work. What the hell?

Delivery
Given the challenges the business is facing, the current Door to Door payment arrangements do not support the need to drive growth in this market and we have undertaken a fundamental review of this area. We have also reviewed arrangements for early shift payments in delivery. It has been agreed to cease and incorporate the total value of these payments (£52m Door to Door, and £40m delivery early shift allowance and grandfather rights) into a new permanent (non-pensionable) supplement to basic pay. This is payable to all delivery office employees directly tagged to and working in the delivery function. The supplement will increase in value as agreed in basic pay rises. It will flow through in 2011 and 2012. It will be paid 52 weeks a year at the rate of £20.60 per week, pro rata for part time employees and applies to new entrants.

To me this reads that the supplement will stop after 2012 or be creatively accounted for in another ground breaking deal.

God help us!
