I think your all missing the point what is the point of discussing the workers buy out its as likely as winning the lottery. The current pension defcit is over 7.5 billion and growing . The report reccomends a further 50 to 60 % more enfierciences appox 50 000 jobs. Who is suddenly going to buy into a workers control idea.

Tn the reality is that the Government sees private capital in the way of joint vertures either one or a few as subsidising the USO. No workers control issue will do this.

In any case the CWU have rejected the Hooper report . The CWU is opposed to the Joint venture and the slash and burn policy of Royal Mail. We now have 100 mps who oppose this as well with hardly any campaign imagine what support we can get if we lauch a politcal and idustrial campaign similar to the stand by your post campagin when we defeated the tory party plan which helstine was in charge with.

With regards to the cwu position on the board that has been offered but what does it mean ? Will we be listen to will we have vote etc. Remember their is already a trade union reprsentative on the board margret prosser and she has been no use to us whatsoever. In any case an independent trade union which is strong and united should be able to force any employer to listen to us. The sad thing is our headquaters and in particular our main leaders are far from united and this has stopped thus far proper campaigning as one side wants just a politcal mp lobbying campagin and the other want a unprecented industrial and political campagn of the membership and public.

This vaccum has let crozier and his cronies push through changes such as pensions , mail centre closures , budget cuts , 1 hour contracts and numerous other attacks without a proper national response.

Crozier in his letter to the all employees addresses didt mention the CWU once . Very revealing when you consider it was one of the recommendations in the hooper report to improve the CWU and Royal Mail relationship. Even more surprising when you consider membership levels of the CWU in Royal Mail is 85% with most cities in the mid 90s.

Look I know some on this board love a debate and enjoy the banter. But surely this board can provide a better vechile to assist in the fight against the Hooper / goverment reprot.

Look a few on this site know me and know in the divison we cover we will do our bit to assist branch`s around the country and intend to put as much pressure on the NEC and GS to carry out the full terms of motiion E6.

1.Margaret Prosser is a non ex director,IMHO I would be looking for the union to have at least 3 reps on the board.If the reps have to take a minority line on issues within R.M then so be it.
2.Why cant we have both?,We have to lobby Mp's on this,it would be folly not to try and persuade the govt's own mps to vote against this.
