The strain of what ?
The strain of trying to do his Job, whilst being so unpopular.

So unpopular that he was unelected for another 5 years unopposed in may.

Look at the facts since 2003 when he became DGSP we achieved the £300 deal (26.28 ) Pay has gone up more in this 5 year period then any previous correspending period.

We had a National No vote in 2003 which was meant to be the end of the cwu. When Tony Mcarthy through the document at Dave and said " the world had changed " and that the union would have to accept what Royal Mail wanted from now on. Well did we ? off course not within a month there was two offiicial London weightiing strikes which spiralled into the biggest unofficail dispute since the miners. Thanks to those areas we got the National Union back into talks and sercured the Pay and Major change agreement of 2003 which was the £ 26.28 pay rise. Oh and by the way the long await 5 day week came in a union goal since 1988.

The following year by threatening to strike again we got the securing our future agreement which meant above inflation deals with the promise of trials on new ways of working which collasped.

Then last year we got the first National Yes vote since the employee agenda dispute and stopped a lot of Royal Mail s agenda to the point they have removed all of their operational team and all of those involved in the deal. Whatever your views on the pay and mod agreement the membership were consultated over the deal and voted overwhemily in favour of the agreement. In fact anyone who have seen the breakdown will know that only 9 branch`s within the union had a majority vote against the deal.

With regards to pensions its true that CWU HQs including the DGSP have dragged their feet on fighting for pensions, but part of any resoultion on pensions was always going to be as a rusult of a govermnent descesion.

In any case the DGSP along with the PEC have to listen to Branch activists and make a judgement call on whether we can deliver on this issue and I have to say whilst some branch`s are up for the fight, in my opinion as someone who has been at all the briefings the majority of branchs are not and some who openly say the pension issue has left the biulding !!

Why dont you leave the matter about what did or didt happen on friday night alone. Its a non event and nothing to do with work and anyone who knows what really happen knows that.

Only those who want to cause internal divisions within the union for whatever reasons will drag this issue on.

Surely with 14 mail centres balloting, the pension issue not dead, the hooper report being rumoured to be delayed, management by default changing the current delivery spec we got enough to concenntrate on . Time to fight the real issues united.

well said dingo there is more important issues at stake you say the fight goes on but where are the fighters ? i have always backed the union but most in my office have lost the fight most do not know what rights they have we need strong leadership in the d.o.s most have to fight thier own battles and end up losing thier jobs. we are only as strong as the leaders we have.

:chuckle Did I say that? oh
What I meant was it's the oldest trick to drag out a character assassination attempt by feigning support and understanding while all the time you continue to keep the issue alive .
Who might do that? :hmmmm
