It is a disgrace that all this has been decided behind our backs basically - with the actual members having no say in this carve up.
We contributed to the RMPP as well as RM from our wages so it is only right we get a fair share of this surplus.

It is just as much our money as RM.
We are entitled because we paid into the pension fund so why should we not get a fair share.

It is just as much our money as RM.
We are entitled because we paid into the pension fund so why should we not get a fair share.

The pension scheme was wrongly closed early, that's why, we now have inferior benefits.

For anyone interested in the latest on this – the Dept. for Work and Pensions have opened a consultation on the regulations associated with the release of surplus DB pension funds.

Scheme members as well as employers, are being mentioned in relation to receiving a share of available cash.

The regulations aren't due to 'go live' until April 2027.

There's a few questions to be asked before that one!

1. How much is the surplus?
2. How much of it will be released?
3. Will the members actually get any?
4. If they do, who will be eligible and what are the qualifying details?

1. A very good question
2. Preferably all of the surplus with none syphoned off, we can decide to save, invest in shares or put it toward another AVC.
3. I should think so as we paid into the scheme.
4. Only those who have been members and paid into should get it , no new member of staff who paid nothing toward it should get it at all, it would be very unfair if newbies get all the free money without contributing toward it.

As it's a defined benefit pension it's illegal to hand the members any of the surplus which is why the CWU want it moved into the Employee Collective Benefit Trust instead of the company getting it or taking a pension holiday.

Apparently new rule will be in place April 2027 so the trustees can decide to payout amongst members,CWU can not let DK scoop the lot and give us nothing.
