RM - to hike first-class stamps to £1.65

Not even trying to hide their plans so why the government isn’t sticking its oar in more to very specifically spell out what is expected of the national mail service is rather baffling.

It's not been a national service since privatisation, I'm sure the government have way more s**t to try and fix than letter deliveries. The whole country is in a shambles compared to 15 years ago. Nothing short of criminal.

Oh I know that the notion of ‘service’ is supposed to be dead but customers still think we are part of the Post Office. They still think we’re a service and have high expectations of a level of service.

I’m only too aware of that fact. They’re a band of blood sucking leeches who will bleed RM dry before moving on to their next victim. That’s obvious. Everyone can see that that is what is happening. It’s just a mystery why no one with the money or power to do anything about it, wants to raise their head above the parapet.

Can someone tell me what is 1st class is that the stuff that's left in offices for days?

We don't even deliver much stamped mail anyway. Any stamped mail is typically postcards or cards.

It's mostly franked mail that we deliver. How much do businesses pay to send franked mail? I assume far less than what a 1st class stamp costs...

According to google it's £0.11 cheaper to send franked, but I am wondering if these companies that send out marketing materials get it for much cheaper because of the volumes of mail they send.

First class mailmark (at the moment) is £1.06 for a standard letter compared to £1.35 for stamp.

2nd class £0.69 compared to £0.85

I would imagine the big businesses that push out bulk mailings get cheaper rates still through DSA providers.

Edit: just seen the mailmark went up in July, they really don't letters anymore at any price do they!!

It'd be interesting to see a graph showing the volumes of 1C and 2C for mech letters, manual letters and flats over the years, even if it's just as a %

There are so many statistics about this operation that would be extremely interesting. Decisions are supposedly data-driven so we know they're being logged yet there is no chance that they will see the light of day, particularly as since privatisation they're now corporate secrets. Can't even see my own Outdoor Actuals. Only thing you can do is mentally note what passes through your own hands each day.
