Work in post office and we got no bags, postie said they’ve not had any back from the mail centre, using bin bags, post building up quickly in ours, postie said he was told that if they’re not bagged just take the regs and leave everything else, wheels starting to come off at Royal Mail it feels that way anyway, they’re destroying an institution the way they’re behaving, not one of our customers has said they blame the workers for whats happening, they’ve all been very understanding, stay strong and united

I would have contacted the relevant enforcement authority to highlight the failure to adhere to health and safety legal requirements.

perhaps reinforce the number one prioirty of royal mail is safety first as they like to say.

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
This clearly outlines the responsibilities and procedures that must be in place, and adhered to, for fire outbreak and emergency situations. These measures state that, in order to safeguard the safety of any and all building occupants, the designated responsible person must ensure that all routes to emergency exits from the premises and the exits themselves are kept clear at all times.

The act also lists the following requirements for maintaining the safety of building residents or occupants in regard to fire exits and emergency evacuation and safety routes:

All emergency routes and exits must lead as directly as possible to a designated place of safety
In any event of fire outbreak or danger, there must be available evacuation routes from the premises as quickly and safely as possible
There must be an adequate provision of emergency routes and exits in regard to the number of them, their dimensions and their placements around the building that will sufficiently cater for the size of the building and the potential maximum number of occupants at any one time. These emergency routes must also offer relevant access to the emergency equipment installed around the building
All emergency doors MUST open in the direction of the designated escape route
NO sliding, or revolving doors, can be used for exits on a designated escape route or emergency exit
Emergency doors MUST NOT be locked or fastened in a manner that they cannot be easily, and immediately, opened by ANY person who may require to access them in an emergency. You must consider elderly, infirm and people of restricted physical ability in these considerations
All emergency routes and exits must be clearly signposted, indicated and identified
Any emergency route or exit that requires illumination must be provided with emergency lighting or adequate intensity in the case of potential failure of the normal lighting in an emergency situation

Enforcement, appeals and penalties
Your local fire and rescue authority visits premises to check the fire risk assessment and fire prevention measures are appropriate. Fire safety officers should help you understand the rules and comply with them.

They can also take action if they think your fire safety measures are not adequate. For example, they might issue an informal notice suggesting safety measures.

They could also give you a formal fire safety notice. They’ll tell you how to fix the problems described in the notice.

What's their processing section like?

Anytime now the merry-go-round of MCs diverting work to other MCs will start. Some MCs will probably have to send the lorries to DOs with a suitably sized tarpaulin and stick the stuff in their yards

Most do's haven't got room for their vans any time of year, then add in the extra hire vans(we've got 7). There ain't no room to be storing unprocessed mail they'd be told to take it straight back. And I bet not many do's will be doing any divert this year, the managers will be trying to get us to do delivery work never mind MC work

We heard the warrington parcel hub was full up yesterday, not sure of its true or not. Imagine what the mail centres will be like after these next 2 days

I was there last Saturday evening and the queue was to ASDA. When I eventually got to the gatehouse I was told the yard was almost full of trailers with mail on waiting to get on the bays. The bays were full of trailers with mail on waiting to get unloaded but couldn't because the warehouse was full of yorks not going anywhere fast. I was told there was still some room on the roof.
