The only thing length of service has to do with it as I understand is if you'll get it or not. All who do will get 9 mnths basic pensionable pay X 39 weeks. Plus 6k is pro rata.
Nope, there's a sliding scale just like the previous redundancy package, 39 weeks is the max.
Well it says I get 39weeks off 22 yrs service and I can't see me getting offered VR so I would say everyone who gets offered it will get 39 wks.

You can only do this on that stupid People App?

That app isn't compatible with my iPhone or my Macbook....

Anyway to get around this other than buying a £1,000 iPhone or £1,400 Macbook?..... it's bloody ridiculous!

Let's just say each office can only accept 1-5 people voluntary redundancy yeah? My office is tiny and in all likelihood only 1 will be accepted. The person they will choose is a 60+ year old, who is s**t at job, has diabolical sick record and has COPD.. he is the lucky one who will get the golden egg not me a fit healthy 37 year old.. As ever with Royal mail, the worse you are at the job the more you get rewarded..

Played around with calculator.
It's 3 weeks for every year up to a maximum of 9 months
6k is pro rata if you're part time.
It's a crap deal. (Although slightly better than statutory minimum).
People need to remember this is a scoping exercise and very few will get it- if you work in a DO you will likely already have vacancies so every one of those is effectively a redundancy that someone isn't going to get.
Even with Saturday delivery gone, and the resulting cover men obsolete, they still want Sunday as a working day.
Remember by even applying on the app, you are helping them do a job and showing your hand.

Got that right.
Same as life in general. If you're s**t with money, have no savings, you get social care for free. If you work hard save hard, are good with money, you get to pay for the same care. We've been fighting for above 2% rise and pensioners and benefits claimers get 10% . Nice.

Alternative view: they know the 60+ year old is on about retiring soon, plus management know of the unofficial favours he does for the people on his round, wouldn’t be hard to catch him in the act if he doesn’t bugger off and conduct him out the door. No need to throw £25k at him.

Easier to pay the 37 year old half of that £25k (or whatever it comes to).
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

You are operating under the assumption that you know who'll be offered it. This is simply a preference exercise at this point.

It says on the sliding scale I linked earlier.

"VR is offered at Royal Mail’s discretion"

I wouldn’t be so sure of that mate. I’m virtually the same as you and think I’ve a pretty decent chance.
Think of it from a different angle and from that of what RM want. Everybody off the old contracts asap. The likes of you and I could potentially be knocking around for another 30 years -pay us off now, it’s cheaper and we’re gone.
The older amongst us will be gone within a much shorter time if left in job, through retirement and more than likely not being able to hack it (no offence intended to anyone but that’s the way the jobs going and I’m putting myself in RMs shoes) and to get rid now would cost way more.
The cheapest and youngest option is probably , and obviously this is an Opinion, as I don’t know the figures, way more cost effective long term.

Is it a great offer - No.

But I've seen many people pack in and go for nothing in the last year or so. The only reason I've not gone is because I'd quite like a payoff to go so I'm quite happy to accept this less than great offer.

That makes a lot of sense mate, but royal mail are backward and always do things wrong. I agree the likes of us going would save them more money in the long run . I remember though about 6 year ago at my office, 4 posties aged over 60 got 40k payouts, only for us to be short staffed after..

That's the thing, there's no published criteria for it. My manager said seniority when I asked him but with royal fail you never know. Maybe they'll choose the ones with least service but who are on old contracts ?Who knows. Anyway, now Simon will know just how many of us would jump at £20k or whatever, my estimate is there'll be a good 20-30,000 who will have registered interest in this. Now what can he do with this information, that's the next question.

However my rep has an alternative view that if the VR’s are over subscribed they will honour them.
Then phase 2 is implemented “ New staff on new contracts to backfill subsequent vacancies”
