There seems to be a cult amongst some reps that they are there to decide what is best for the membership rather than carry out the wishes of the membership. Some are so far removed from what is and isn't in the best interests of everyone they are on another planet. Perhaps it is because many of the issues do not directly affect them and so they aren't bothered.

What level of rep are we talking about here dvbuk55? Local rep with virtually no release time who does a 40 hour postal workers job or higher up where release time gets more frequent and reaches full release?

i agree some reps are out of touch but i wouldnt have thier job for anything, nowadays they are cut adrift from the top union support with this local agreement crap. The sooner we have a united front to changes the better then and only then will the reps get the respect they deserve for the job they do

Im about to challenge all the mbrs in my office to put in for local rep by handing them all a nomination form with a covering letter encouraging them to get involved. Is their big chance to re negotiate anything they dont like in the office.

I belive a D.O can have up to 9 people invoved with the CWU which is IR rep Sub IR rep H&S rep and 6 local committee members, at present i do the IR rep and nobody does any of the others.

Todays grief from the mbrs was the mail centre getting SA rate earlier than us, what they didnt realise is that processing and distrubution are covered by their own area reps and not the area delivery rep.

Of course its all my fault then again every thing is my fault if we get a heavy day what happens? I get grief! For f**** sake thats the way it is RM, we get days were we can complete in time easily and days were its difficult to impossible to complete. In my 17 years at RM ive seen some lovley relaxing days and some some days that have been right brutes!

Pegasus , my fault like I look like a computer program? How do you tell if the bloddy thing is right or wrong implement and find out! 1 delivery has already proven to be wrong as the DOM went out with the mbr to check the deivery and it came out at least 4 hours. Pegasus says 3 hours! My favourite line is "you voted for it" Plenty of mbrs back before 1pm today!

Pegasus is wrong, you shouldn't 'implement', you should test walks prior to anything, 'cos once walks are in place sadly staff (being oh so foolish) often MAKE them work by rushing and cutting corners ect;

Fact is Pegasus has never been run correctly yet and i doubt it ever will.

However our office has knocked it back time and time again for about a year by testing prior to anything and obviously proving it don't work when a job is delivered correctly 'the royal mail way'.

They are now going to run Pegasus at 2hr 45min... still don't beieve this will stack up but we shall see...

Don't get Pegasus voted in unless your confident it will work or as near as damn it. :so there

If pegasus was set at walking 1 mile in 90 minutes speed and with a 98% call rate would it still be crap?

The biggest problem is pkts we get over 1.7% but pegasus dosent allow for this.

Pegasus isn't a crap tool, its just never been run correctly.

I think its a good tool if its done correctly, but it isn't...

Have the members in your office delivered these new walks 'the royal mail way' ??? or are they doing as they probably did before... making the jobs work!

Without actually following them round deliverey i dont know how they are doing the deliveries.

What ive told mbrs is that if they think the round is too big then make sure thats what they are showing on the signing in/out sheets.

My guess being they are doing as they've probably always done... coming in early, cutting corners, neglecting security standards and health and safety standards and so on and so on...

All chasing the minutes!

I would imagine you do know how they are delivering... which is the same as they've always done, is it?

Like I said im not going around the delivery with them to see what they are doing, the time they start dosent matter I look at the time they started duty and the time they finished and compare against scheduled working hours I look at how long they are taking from first stop to last stop.

My call rate on monday was below that at which pegasus is set at in my area (88%) But my attendance call rate was well above.

Are they working any different, proably not but one cant be certain.

I think my post which is over six months old was in reference to a poster who had difficulty in being heard at shop floor level by the rep. My point was that reps did not consult with the membership before making agreements that do not directly affect them but do affect the membership. When CWU HQ make sweeping agreements which are to be "agreed and implemented at local level", then they should ensure that local reps have the ability and the tools to negotiate change and that agreements made with RM are fully understood. I would also say that in order to be a rep then there should be a willingness to spend time outside any release time in order to get the job done. In fairness those agreements can easily be misconstrued and only recently, on re-reading one of the national agreements, I saw that an error had been made in what we had agreed to locally.
