Re: When the queen dies
I’ve suffered a snapped boot lace this morning, just wondering firstly if I’m entitled to have a couple of hours off on Saturday to get a new pair of laces (even though I only actually need one), and secondly can I claim the cost of the new lace plus petrol to the shop?

That's like saying you're only a royalist because you like to have days off.
They are not mutually exclusive. You can be anti-royal and pro bank holiday.
I'm turning purple!

Re: When the queen dies
No one asked any of us to join Royal Mail ,we went to them looking for employment .
No one needs to stay , the exit door is big enough for any disgruntled employees
to walk through , or is it just a case of "Hate the Crown but Love the Half- Crown" I would
suspect that since RM is now a private company you should be glad to get any paid time
off let alone any time off for the Queens passing .

Re: When the queen dies
Not sure what working for Royal Mail has to do with it, the Royal Family have never paid our wages but anyhow you can't force people to respect the Queen that's completely illogical, she's a stranger who lives a life none of us can even comprehend.
It is on a par with religion, some believe and some don't but castigating non-believers as heretics is not a good look for any religion.
She's just a woman born into a life of privilege, flesh, bones and sticky stuff inside like anyone else, why pay her any more respect than Mrs Jones at number 28?

because of the ROYAL connotation in his employers name but as we are all aware there has been
very little Royal in RM for long many a year so I don't expect he will be allowed to just down tools
and go home until after the ceremonies have taken place.

Most firms apart from maybe a bank holiday for the funeral it'll be normal working days throughoutblue1873 wrote: ↑08 Jun 2022, 15:01Agree with you completely, but i believe the OP is expecting/ hoping for more than Joe AverageWoody Guthrie wrote: ↑08 Jun 2022, 14:14Not sure what working for Royal Mail has to do with it, the Royal Family have never paid our wages but anyhow you can't force people to respect the Queen that's completely illogical, she's a stranger who lives a life none of us can even comprehend.

As part of "Operation London Bridge", all public institutions are supposed to (in theory) stop work immediately on news of the Queen's death. But these plans were drawn up along time ago, and in practice it just won't happen. There will however be a bank holiday for the funeral, and possibly a day of mourning and Charles' coronation.
You seem to be an ardent Royalist, I'm surprised you didn't know this.

Re: When the queen dies
Many years ago when RM was an institution and public owned, yes it would have been a possibility as most things could be "swung", but now?? Not a chance unless it is declared a national day off or finish early.
The only "special" concession you are likely to get should this happen is that you won't have to explain that particular yellow dot.

I doubt that any firms apart from maybe really small ones will stop work then the inevitable death of the Queen happens.sindba wrote: ↑09 Jun 2022, 10:04
