Re: RMCtv : Vacancies update : 190 leave each week because...?
I found it super hard to motivate myself to apply for jobs. At the end of every day I'm broken and the last thing I wanted to do was hunt for jobs. I then realised what was on the horizon...... potentially the worst Christmas in RM history in terms of volumes and sickness. This motivated me and it can you to.

Pretty sure that I won't be far behind you. You have the same plan that I have, I just need to pick the right moment to do it.nightcrawler wrote: ↑24 Sep 2021, 20:06I’ll be in the same boat soon - leaving with no job to go to. I’ve had enough now, and want to go before Christmas, most likely in October/November. I plan on taking some time off to unwind, de-stress, and just get Royal Mail out of my system! Then in the new year start looking for a new job.
I've had a signed for duty for the last few years but can fully identify with most of your reasons. The management of the company have trashed the workforce at every opportunity and it is the only thing they know how to do. Best wishes to you for the futureJahpostie wrote: ↑24 Sep 2021, 20:11I found it super hard to motivate myself to apply for jobs. So 190 per week, assuming delivery office staff means a turnover annually of circa 9.5k people, or about 8% of the workforce. That would be shocking if it were a business where people are all permanently employed, but hardly sursprising with all the temporary contracts issued, sometimes for years before the person is made substantive or whatever term it is they use.
It's a carousel of crap basically; people are given temporary contracts mainly on the basis that the new recruits only stay for over 6 months (I was told!) in about 1/9 instances. The reasons they only stay for a short while are well documented here, insufficient training, unreasonable expectations regarding speed and throwing off, being paired with impatient old hands on rounds who are under pressure to get round quickly and have little time for accommodating newbies, pushed from pillar to post with no consistency from day to day and given the sh!te rounds no one else wants to deliver. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy along the lines of "Well, they're gonna leave soon enough anyway so we might as well give 'em the crap and anything they achieve is a bonus..." And so the cycle continues, in perpetuity......

Does anyone think that it could be a Royal Mail strategy to try and push some of us longer term full time contract people out the door?

I wouldn’t be at all surprised. Saves them paying out EVR. This year would have been the first time that I would have taken EVR if it was offered...just my luck it wasn’t.

The only strategy is for Simon to be able to tell the shareholders he has done what he said. It’s pushing people out the door by default. There is no other plan as far as I can see.

I doubt it when it's the newbies taking most of the grif, hence why most leave within 6 months of starting? The company just wants more from everyone not just a group of employees.

17) Office favourites negotiating double time overtime rates whilst others expected to claim extended delivery.
Brilliant nothing to disagree with on that list.
Favourites SA from early morning sorting parcel. Start prepping their delivery before their start time (Prep on SA time). Can collect their special deliveries before scheduled time whilst the rest have to wait. Get out of office before anyone else. Duty finish time should 2.00pm but oh no they complete delivery and back at the office for 11.00. Then more SA for LATs. Meanwhile, others are unable to finish their deliveries and go over their times. (No overtime for extended delivery). Those that cut off told they have a performance issue. Union rep in the pocket of the Dom.
Dear Simon can look like the man of the people as much as he likes but it holds no sway without actions on all of the points raised in this thread.

What's the churn rate at your craphole like?
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: RMCtv : Vacancies update : 190 leave each week because...?
There has to be a better format to make it easier for everyone, surely.
1. We need all rounds to be individual, not van-share.
It is so much easier doing a round on your own, you know where you stand, you know you won't be slowed down by someone else, you know you won't be bossed around by a runner, you know you won't be put with someone who doesn't know the round, you have plenty of room in the van to stay organised and be efficient.
2. We all need our own round.
It is so much easier, less stressful and more efficient to be on a specific round that you know each day.
3. We all need our rounds to be fair and doable within our contracted hours.
There is zero respect for our contracted hours. Zero respect for our finish time. The way things are setup means that if we want to cut off, management sometimes harasses you for it and it causes problems for you the next day, so we are put in a corner where it's better for us to stay out, which is completely wrong when they have contracted us to a specific finish time. Something needs to change here. Maybe by making each round easily doable within our hours and then topping us up with lapsing to get us to our time.
I understand that in some depots there may not be enough room for extra vans, or some may say it will be too costly for Royal Mail to provide a van to each Postie. These may be valid points, but maybe there are ways to make it work.
How much does it cost Royal Mail each time we lose a Postie, after giving them uniform, training, Van driving test, etc, etc, then having to recruit all over again.....
If you know where you stand, with your own designated round that you know you can complete even on a busy day, then there is virtually zero stress, the job is a pleasure. Whereas if you are going out blind, being moved around, put with the guy who wants to treat you like you're in the S.A.S, then you are coming into hell.
Make change, make the Royal Mail a pleasure to work for and people will be far less likely to leave! You will probably see many stay for life with these changes.
