because thats the guidlines doms have been issued. aim for 50% staff although they are allowed more if their office has a lot of rurals. They are trying to get one postie to deliver all packets on two or more deliveries. That is not possible on most walks as was proven yesterday. Offices that were clearing now have a backlog of packets from saturday plus 2 days of mail to prep and deliver tomorrow plus if you have them, door to doors to prep into your frame and with most offices running a shorter Monday 7.5hrs for most, it aint gonna get cleared when also in the guide it states NO OVERTIME (yes it was in caps) to be paid Saturday or Monday. Oh and only 4 days to do d2d in this week as BH is Friday. Would not want to be a manager this week.A2B wrote:Why will there only be half staff?2yearpostie wrote:Its not worked in all offices though, and remember yesterday we had full staff, going forward their will only be half staff so things will be very different this coming sat..south London postie wrote:Is there anything that can now prevent Rico going to the Gov when this pandemic is done and dusted and saying 'we trialled this during the worst possible time and we proved it worked. Can some please tell me what has changed since RM made the announcement of suspending Saturday letter deliveries? Nothing changed, the letter deliveries still got suspended. As for the changes to duties etc etc, RM never actually stated they would change deliveries, all they said was they were suspending letter deliveries and would concentrate on delivering parcels, which is exactly what happened. You delivered your duty parcels then you went and delivered left over parcels on other duties. The union changed nothing and the government changed nothing. Rico said he wanted to do this for 3 months and now it is 6 weeks, does anyone believe that the union or government made him change that number, I doubt it was ever changed in the first place, , all he needs is 6 weeks (I think he will keep it going for much longer) to show that Saturday letter deliveries are not needed and are an inefficient use of RM resources and money. Then when the USO comes up for renewal (which under this government could be brought forward to this year with the pandemic used as the excuse to do this IMO), Rico will be fighting to scrap it and now the union have allowed him to get the data to back him up. Well done Union once again you played a blinder, outfoxed by the lazy fat greedy capitalist coward hiding in his bunker in Switzerland. 5 day letter delivery weeks will be here to stay within a year IMO, with thousands of jobs gone, and the union just rolled over and let them do it. It's hard to stomach in the current situation, but if you are like me and not a full-time duty holder then I would start looking for a job in the next few months or retrain/learn a new skill because our future career at RM looks bleak IMO. TBH the way Rico is being allowed to run the company, the ones leaving the company might be the lucky ones.Celgar wrote:Everything is falling down around the governments ears at the moment due to the effect of social distancing. Tend to agree with you on this - we were all in on Saturday, no mail received at the DO, just SD's, parcels and packets. Everybody finished well undertwiddledumb wrote:

their time (including delivering the lapsed duties) - so as you said - all the data to back up cutting Saturday letters and personnel. Rico hasn't made any
committment to the USO either way, in his letter to D&T he just said:
You could put the word 'YET' in big capital letters after my highlighting. Doesn't mean they won't make a decision in the future, just that theyThe company has made no decision in relation to the USO. It is for Ofcom and Government to decide. Many of the
features of the USO are very valuable to Royal Mail. The company would like to share its thinking with CWU in the coming weeks. However the company can
confirm that they have made no decision to support the reduction of the six day USO in future
haven't made one at this current time. If OFCOM and Govt. review suggests a reduction to five days do you think Rico will turn it down......?

It's clear to me that Rico has wanted to do this since he got the job (to be fair the last CEO of RM wanted to scrap USO also), but he never imagined we would get the opportunity to get the data/evidence to support his case so easily. He has used the pandemic as an excuse to see if he could get away with it, and to his glee the union rolled over and basically said ok, as long as duties are not changed. A weak union who refuse to use the full force of its membership to stand up to Rico does not bode well for us at all. Again, I see a bleak future as long as the union continue to roll over and allow this man to get away with anything he wants. By the time the union get their act together and start to take action, it going to be to late, the data his minions give him on Saturday deliveries will have made it clear that they are financially not worth keeping. Can we really see a tory super majority led by the dodo brain Johnson forcing RM to keep a service that is not profit making? Neither can I. Again, the union allowing this to go ahead basically means an end to the 6 day week letter delivery within a year and thousands of job losses, including mine IMO. I think Rico and RM plan is likely to be something like a new weekend parcel delivery service consisting of zero hour contract self employed drivers using their own vans/cars, while keeping the 5 day letter and parcel delivery week with huge changes to the working conditions and rights of all staff. Like I said, if the union give him an inch (which they have) he will take a mile. Just watch how it unravels in the next year and see how close to the truth I am.yellowbelly wrote:Tend to agree with you on this - we were all in on Saturday, no mail received at the DO, just SD's, parcels and packets. amazing that some offices were all finished before time and others have cages of packets from saturday to do tomorrow and no body went home early, even the managers were there to send people back out and still there was loads left.yellowbelly wrote:Tend to agree with you on this - we were all in on Saturday, no mail received at the DO, just SD's, parcels and packets. The one big hurdle for the company is that it's done well to great out of this pandemic. It's going to be the financial year of two Christmases. (Along with the horror of watching loved ones and tens of thousand others dying of this miserable disease, of course.)
It's going to be tough to cry poor and argue that a single day of delivering letters will break Royal Mail. One of the reasons supposedly behind privatization is that profits from parcels would support the public good of cheap letters. It'll be interesting to see what the message is.

There's debate if RM is making that much money at the moment but i think one thing we can all be sure of the accounts won't show it if they are.britwrit wrote:The one big hurdle for the company is that it's done well to great out of this pandemic. I see M&S have already said there will be no dividend for next year 20/21, expect many others to follow

Must be costing a fortune with all the casuals, manpower an angard staff plus social distancing measures being put in place at last. plus sick pay an mail being sorted three or four times more than usual due to social distancing and lots of missorts as no-one is being properly trained.A2B wrote:There's debate if RM is making that much money at the moment but i think one thing we can all be sure of the accounts won't show it if they are.britwrit wrote:The one big hurdle for the company is that it's done well to great out of this pandemic. under the temporary arrangements that's true, but when it becomes the normal procedure they'll change it via revisions and then the choice is pretty stark.A2B wrote:

What have the Union won.
Royal Mail still aren't delivering letters on Saturdays, if you looked at the 5 year plan this would be right up near the top of the list. So we kept out rotas at the moment, in the bigger picture it means nothing.
