They can support the member in any formal process they decide to follow. Whilst the Union won't give guidance (I don't think) on Overtime after a strike, they would I hope help, guide and represent a member who wanted to go down the grievance, ET route.dvbuk55 wrote:What action would you suggest? I am not saying that I will be looking for overtime, far from it. What I am putting over is the fact that a striker is stopped from doing overtime on his/her own round SHOULD HE/SHE WISH TO DO SO, but a non striker is allowed to clear up any backlog on that strikers round on overtime. That is Royal Mail actively discriminating against a member for taking part in a legally balloted industrial action, and the CWU should take action against the company wherever that takes place.

Re: Your £300 Lump Sum
Difficult one can see both parts of the discussion. If I was a manager I suppose I would give it to the postie who has turned up through the strike but if I was on the picket line I suppose I would have wanted the overtime. I did say before though if you feel strike is necessary then to me it defeats the objective in doing overtime. I remember in the 80 and 90's strike when they we had strikes we would come in and it was open docket to try and clear it. You used to earn a fortune but things have changed these days..Lincox wrote:Workotime & Cloherty

But that would be discriminating against those who went on strike.cloherty1976 wrote:Difficult one can see both parts of the discussion. Which would be illegal.

Maybe give it to non union members . I don't know just saying what might be fair on both parties. Maybe the union should take a discrimination case to court and we could see the legal implications.UnhappyGremlin wrote:But that would be discriminating against those who went on strike.cloherty1976 wrote:Difficult one can see both parts of the discussion. Whatever criteria is used to give work to one person over another is discrimination.
There should be a list of volunteers, and it should be shared equally (as far as possible) between them.
It has to be fair and allow all the same chance of OT that want it.

Absolutely, any overtime in any circumstance should mean a fair distribution to all individuals prepared to work the overtime and who are qualified to do so, otherwise the business will be discriminating against those who are not given a slice of the cake.

Who - The Union can't as not all posties are members
The Business won't as the job won't get done and they'd get a slating in the press.

Re: Your £300 Lump Sum
I agree that any Overtime should be based on an Aggregated/Equally distributed system. And it would be a good way for any striking posties to make a bit of money up. However Management always play their Favourites and would like to give all that Overtime to their "Blue eyed Boys, and Girls"!
In the past I've pushed Managers to publish an "Overtime Paid Sheet" (to show who is actually getting the Overtime, which I understand some offices operate) but they don't like it!
They'd much rather pay a single Crony 20 hour overtime than give another four posties 5 hours each!
You're not going to stop it Unless ,after this strike, everyone who feels they're being discriminated against due to lack of Overtime puts in a disagreement!

Maybe 'some'
Managers give overtime to those that lie for them, during investigations too? As well as A/L from next years allocation, and odd days off here and there, which others have already followed correct channels to try to get, yet somehow same old ' brown nosed gimps always manage to get.....funny??

I think it will pretty much depend on what pressure the government put on Moya Greene to sort or not sort. If they are out to destroy the union it could last until Christmas and beyond. Of course the new shareholders may also apply pressure to get this sorted.

And then we'll take each day as it comes.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
