Im a unit rep of about 6 weeks, on Aug 2nd I slipped on a step and am signed off till the 20th tue to ligament damage and a sprained ankle, I look forward to going back to an interview where the manager will go through the tedious process of trying to make out my absence was not an an accident at work.

Our office has been waiting for 3 months for some inkcartridges from the area office so I have to go to an internet cafe to print out material when neccessary. When I ask for advice I hardly ever get a reply from the more experienced area reps, Its a bit depressing I want to represent my colleagues properly but feel I am impeded from doing so.

I sympathise with you on this one I am lucky cause I have brilliant reps in my branch but I still use this site and pick their brains. There are some incredibly knowledgeable reps on here suss them out and pm them with your concerns, it helps . But you SHOULD be getting help from your area rep that is what they are there for! Don't give up we need reps lean on someone else they will be glad to help you.

I have been a distribution rep for 2 years and Branch Secretary.

It can be a thankless task at times but the way i look at it is the problems and issues that are in the workplace would still drive me round the bend if i was not a rep, so better to be in a position to have a battle and try to sort them out!!!

Also if you are lucky enough to deal with a manager who has more brain cells than testicles then you can get things sorted out!

i'm a rep !!
lots of respect to all reps out there , i see some people are slating the reps around here .. same old boring crap from people who really don't know what they are talking about !!
lots of people talk a good fight but their quick to hide around the corner when the s**t hits the fan ... one bit of advice for those people who thinkk they can do a better job ..... STEP UP TO THE PLATE !!!

Weird thing is the 2 most recent cases on here where reps themselves

Although I am not a rep I tend to agree with you. At my DO we have a lot of people slagging of the union for various and petty reasons, yet they never seem to back up the union on the picket line. It just seems to be the regular 10 - 20 regulars.

That's what is great about the Union/Members relationship - we can all speak our minds & tell it as it is. If criticism gets too unfairly heavy - I propose a vote of no confidence in myself - & my deputy gladly seconds it. Every office has its 'Sp*rs supporters' - ya have to live with that. My DIM - on the other hand - has to 'phone his SOM - at least 6 times a day to ask if he can have a c*ap - & how many pieces of delsi - he can use.
