Are we all ready for a National Strike?
SierraOscarBravo
From your many comments we can all see that you believe that the CWU are wrong in their campaign around the "4 pillars".
What do you think the union should do??? The roll of the union is to protect its members terms and conditions. It's not as though the company is not making a profit, far from it based on last year's financial figures. Why should we be endlessly compared to companies that are essentially sweat shop employers who offshore their profits to avoid tax??
You have to ask the question who benefits from the erosion of our terms and conditions it certainly not the majority of the work force and not the public whom we serve. This great company is not just a delivery firm it's more than that to millions of people throughout the uk. It is part of the fabric that makes us a society, it binds us together like no other company in the country. All this is being sacrificed on the alter of neo liberalism where profit is king and go hang the rest. That is not a society I wish for my kids to live in and as the result of the last election a great many people think the same way. " For the many not the few"

Something tells me sierra Oscar bravo is not going to vote for a strike.
I have found the perfect job for you SOB
Cover Manager - South East London
Apply now
Date: 14-Jul-2017
Location: London, GB, E (Nationwide Roles)
Company: Royal Mail Group
Job reference number 74608
Starting salary: From £27,834 per annum plus up to 10% performance related bonus
Permanent, full time: 5 days per week, Monday-Saturday (with a rotating day off). Typical hours are 6.30am-14:30 each day dependent on office requirements
Location: To cover Delivery Offices in South East London
Looking for a new challenge? Do you enjoy leading a team? Our Cover Manager position could be the role for you. If you have some prior people management experience and the ability to motivate and inspire a team then we’d love to hear from you.
What does the role involve?
At Royal Mail we have 1400 operational units around the country, all making sure that the mail is collected, sorted and delivered six days a week. Our Delivery Managers are integral to making sure our units run as smoothly as possible. But, given that our operation is across six days and all managers only work five days what happens on their day off or when they are on annual leave? Well, that’s where our Cover Managers come in. Dedicated to supporting a cluster of delivery offices, you’ll stand in for the Delivery Manager in their absence.
This is a hands on role where you will be accountable for a team of postwomen and men, supporting your team as they prepare to deliver mail, by ensuring resources are in place. You will oversee key people, customer, efficiency and financial measures and making sure the unit remains as effective and efficient as possible.
The Cover Manager role is all about leading and managing a team of delivery post people, and you will be responsible for undertaking the tasks of the Manager who you are covering for. Working within a unionised environment, you will ensure your team understand the commercial and competitive market we are in and be customer focussed, open to new technology and flexible to change.
Your day will be split in to two parts. For the first part of the day you will be on the shop floor of the Delivery Office, leading the team whilst they prepare the mail. For the second part of the day the team will go out on delivery whilst you complete planning and management activity in the office.
What skills and experience are we looking for?
First things first, we’re looking for a great manager. Maybe you’re working in retail, hospitality, FMCG or somewhere else entirely, what matters is your ability to motivate, inspire and lead a team. Hands-on, enthusiastic and resilient, you’re the perfect person to keep an operation running smoothly.
You will have an eye for detail and be confident in efficiently managing resources – all with a view to ensuring your team is performing to its very best.
You will have the ability to engage with your frontline team and lead changes within the offices. You will be flexible and be able to hit the ground running as you will cover a different role each day.
Please note;
If you are currently employed by Royal Mail, you must apply via the internal careers site or your application will not be processed accordingly.
Assessment Process
If shortlisted, you will be required to attend an assessment day which will consist of an exercise and competency based interview.
Assessments are due to be held from mid-August to early September and appointments due early November

Or either SOB ends up with a duty that's 6+ hours pure delivery or loses his job when jobs get taken out of his DO. If the USO ever were to be axed i would expect 3 days a week maximum for letter and larger letter delivery.Lounge Lizard wrote:SLP,

Well said ignore SOB he is just trying to get a reaction!LouBarlow wrote:I doubt he is even a post-person. You see it on other forums - e.g. hardware forums - an example would be - if Sony were close to releasing a new TV, you would suddenly have new members join, to slate the company, or big-up rival sets. It's not quite 'trolling' but I'm convinced businesses devote sections of their PR department to cause unrest on forums.Momo90210 wrote:SOB why don't you deduct any pay you receive over minimum wage and donate it to a charity of your choice? I doubt he is even a post-person. He is either a paid shrill or someone employed by RM management to stir up forum boards such as these. Many or should I presume the vast majority of you on here seem willing to participate in industrial action that simply will not be supported by the general public and will seriously tarnish our brand's hard won reputation. At the end of the day most members of the public just want their mail and their parcels to be delivered promptly and at a reasonable price. This is especially important in the run up to Christmas.
Industrial action is a throwback to the 1970s and will not achieve anything other than to hand some of our business and revenue to our competitors. Put simply if we don't deliver what the paying public wants then some other company will.
Royal Mail like any business needs the best managers to lead and inspire the postmen and women who deliver the service the public pay for and expect. Managers across the board are having to take tough decisions and make sacrifices where needed to ensure the business is on a sound footing. Downing tools and throwing a tantrum while the competition continues to grow and our profitability as a company is under sustained pressure is not going to do anything other than cost jobs and business revenue.

The CWU and the union movement in general needs to be making a big push toward unionising the competitors employees (as well as our own of course) - that way we level out the playing field - and this doesn't become a race to the bottom.SierraOscarBravo wrote:

For the time being, short/medium term, we need to fight our corner - and set an example to the rest of the union movement that the working man and woman can and will stand up for themselves and so, by default, the interests of their families and friends and communities.
And though you say the public won't be for us, I reckon that the tide is slowly starting to turn - I reckon that when the case (our case -their case) is put to the public in a fair way (not necessarily by the MSM) we might well be surprised at the response. They aren't stupid.

its amazing.!! RM cuts off talks on pensions, meaning they are not listening to the CWU and ignoring the workforce. yet heres a bloke saying we should accept losing thousands of pounds (in some cases, in excess of 60 or 70 thousand pounds) so the public can get a proper service or they wont support us!! they just want what they pay for!! WE JUST WANT A DECENT PENSION!! will this public support US in our retirement austerity?? will they f**k!! the business needs to be on a sound footing.!! will the business be bothered about you when you are retired without a pot to piss in?? will they f**k!! will we be inspired by managers when we are retired and destitute. will we f**k!! jobs will go!!. they ARE going...25000 to be precise, at the behest of this management. this agreement that they've broken is a legally binding one, but RM are ignoring that... you wait and see when the ballot is announced and a strike date set...RM will go crying to the courts to get a LEGALLY BINDING injunction to stop it. double standards. this management are a bunch of money grabbing immoral bastards and I couldn't care less about them or the public. VOTE FOR STRIKE.
