Now more than ever we have to do our duties properly and give them nothing else.My walk is a total mess, all over the place and i'm not doing anything to help sort it out.Everyone has to just work as they should and RM are f****d and this without strike action. The pressure must be maintained but fear a lot of staff will bury their heads in the sand once again and just think about an early finish.Personally would never cut off my nose to spite my face and leave the union,i have to believe in them.

extending the work to rule and some unofficial action where if there's any victimisation would keep up pressure on both Royal Mail and Hayes/Ward - pressure needs to be applied to both sides as much as possible during this hiatus otherwise... well I don't want to think about it.[/quote]
This is the answer to any doubters of this period of calm

THIS, the internet. We on here have the ability to discuss any new deal put forward to us as a membership. Something we could not do pre-way forward. Now, most of us have the internet and a form of electronic communication and we can get the general feel if any deal is put forward to us by the exec. Simple as that.
Very, very well said. More important than ever to get everyone on here sharpish.

cutting off
I'm not sure about this move, i hope it's the right one because if we have to re-ballot i think support may be down.
I will still cut-off if i feel i cannot complete.

I might be wrong, but isn't it because AL and AC would not negotiate, the reason we were actually on strike?
Ward would have looked silly if we continued to strike after stating publically that strikes would be called off if the gruesome twosome came to the table with something. The talks are confidential, so we are all basically in the dark on what is on offer and what exactly is being discussed. Look at it this way, we are to be paid a days wage tomorrow, and we have to keep the faith that DW and BH know what they are doing. It's progress!

That's a good post and sums it up well.LeightonTalksBull wrote:I reckon that the PEC are doing well...
Suspending intended executive action and getting a commitment to negotiate on all issues is a good start.
1. The union and membership looks mature and reasonable in contrast to leighton's childish "im not gonna talk wiv you".
2. RM buckling after only 4 days makes them look 'weak' as well.
3. The membership can sees that the strike action is effective at mimum cost.
4. Gives some a chance to save up more beer money.
5. Has achieved the first steps in reaching an agreed settlement for the members, ie negotiations watched over by the TUC (cough, on our side).
6. No reason why we cant improve on doing the job properly, etc..
7. Easy to pick up where we left off now everyone knows how cool it can be. Many have learned to enjoy it (camaraderie, barbeques, football, cricket, 4 day weeks, etc)
and so on...

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

CWU has made the right decision to withdraw IA imo, after all they had promised to all along if rm agreed to talk . Also lets not forget the IA wasnt particularly good for us in the long run anyway imo (although i was supporting it fully) as the cost coming from fines etc over delayed DSA mail and such is gonna run into the 100's of millions already, the regulator has delayed the fines but not abolished them so rm will have to pay after IA has stopped. Lets just hope a good deal comes out of these talks cos IA aint no good for anyone really. Hopefully the review on damage to RM from competition will go ahead in parliament and maybe the rules changed to allow us a level playing field to knock all these DSA kids out :)

have to disagree. nothing big al and little c have said or done has been honest or aboveboard. this dispute will go on until either the union is hammered or those two leave tails between legs and their business credentials in tatters. there will be only one winner look at their records, they dont do compromise, they wait.POSTMAN wrote:That's a good post and sums it up well.LeightonTalksBull wrote:I reckon that the PEC are doing well...

let me think, RM makes a profit and it goes to the govt. Does anyone know where the hundreds of millions in fines ends up?

My, what a lively debate we all have been having, been out for the evening, got back to 12 pages + of interesting comment! Difficult to + IT ALL UP, BUT THE VOICE OF REASON, seems to be `lets see`, tinged with some `doubts`? To summarize my thoughts:
1. We started all this of when we backed our self (The Union ) against Bully boy Leighton, with an over whelming vote for `STRIKE ACTION`
2. No matter what you hear, He, rest assured did not expect that RESULT! and maybe neither I think did the Union, by such a huge `figure`
3. At that moment did any of us thing it would not be difficult? did we not know we would be losing money? but despite these thought`s most of the rhetoric on this forum was so what, we will not be bullied? What has changed, we have lost money, but we knew that would happen.
4. Remember all the `Litterature` that then came through our letter boxes? form above, why? because HE/THEY thought it would work, it did before if you remember! this time most took no notice of it!
4a. Seen any `Litterature`lately?` No, because he now knows that just GOT people stoked up, so from that moment `one` of his cards had gone!
5 What do you think he/government was going to do? give in? say here is your money what else do you want?
6.When we started I was prepared to never give in, nothing has changed, just a brief hiatus for some NEGOTIATION, NOT IMPOSITION, that's what it was ever about, AS A RESULT many people have developed a real pride in themselves ( I`m really proud of my office) and this `FORUM` HAS HELPED, as mentioned some where else ( another ACE to our hand)
7. We have had, in some Offices the withdrawal of `Goodwill`fantastic, this means these people are working to R/M guidelines and that has proved the Job can not be done properly as such if these rules are adhered too. (WELL DONE THOSE OFFICES) He knows this and perhaps fears this more than the strikes, because the whole Country could/can now do this, it would cost us no loss of earning but would cost R/M the EARTH.
8. So as a result so far, we have discovered a another powerful `Negotiation Card` and this is not be be discounted, in negotiation what at 1st may seem like a weak card, often in negotiations turns out to be one of the `trumps`.
9. I have `lost` no more money than I have/had expected, so am still at the stage I expected to be! What I knew at the beginning was, it was going to be difficult, nothing has changed, My mentality IN A FIGHT (NOT NEGOTIATION) as I have been taught is, I will do anything to avoid one! but having given you a chance, if you continue after I have allowed you a couple of `goes` you are Finished!
10. As already said, Big Al & C are /have been in a bit of a battle they did not expect, I may be wrong? I expected one and so far we have had one. So lets keep positive because so far that has really got us his nose? and damaged his credibility, the Goverment I suspect is maybe a bit worried now, the Papers are starting to question a bit more? and if the Union P E C, WANT TO TAKE US ON, WELCOME TO THE `FIGHT`

I don't know about you fellas, an this might make you angry, but in my office, if you have a day of on strike, the're begging you to make it up at the weekend cause they never recovered from the road transport review. Simply can't cover saturday collections. On a strike week i'm only losing an hour an a half of pay per strike week. COME ON LEIGHTON YOU OVERPRICED TWAT. Your the problem, not the solution.

WELL SAID bristolchris !
The way I look at it, to persuade the doubters when they cry about lost wages, is this: when you add-up the wages you've given up, weigh up what you stand to gain even if all we get is an extra 0.5% over and above the existing offer. That would equate to about £1.60 a week. Not much, is it ? But it's £83.20 per year, so in three years time, you'll have got back anything you lost by striking. Now think about the £12.50 a week early-start allowance. If we'd laid down and accepted the first 'offer', those payments would cease in three years time. But, because you fought, RM are now saying you'll keep that allowance indefinitely. So if you've got 10 years service still to go, and we get an extra 0.5%, by showing strong resolve and support for your union you'll gain extra earnings of (£12.50 + £1.60) x 52weeks x 7years = £5,132. Funny thing is, that total is more than the sum promised to us under Leighton's phantom share scheme, which we all know depends on hitting totally unacheivable targets.
Four days loss of pay, in that scenario, seems like a price well worth paying
