Great day today. Shedloads of work brought the following exchange

Postman: guv I've got over 120 kilos so i reckon I will have to extend

manager: (with sarcastic smirk) What on that easy walk ?

2nd. postie overhearing this : Yeah mate he's right. That's the easiest walk he's never done ! :chuckle

Wednesday, absolutely horrendous! Loads of packets and larges flats. Everyone out late, and some decided to cull. Today was a bit easier, but still really busy. Again some culled, and the weather was wet, with a fine rain falling almost all of the day.

This is doing my head in, reading about you lot cutting off, working your hours etc. In my office there is no cutting off. Never has been. No one does it. It's alright for some, but when you are the slowest and have the hardest walk it would be nice to be home on time for once.

Tell your manager that you do not think you will be able to complete, take out what you need to work to your time ( or a bit over, to be sure ), then work to your time......if anyone complains, moans or tries to rip it out of you, just tell them that you or working as quick as you can, and you are under no obligation to work any overtime if you do not want to.

I don't know how long you've been a postie, try asking for them to help you, maybe with more training or if they have any advice to help you speed up, while still doing your job safely, or (and I don't know if this is a good idea, ) if your lineos start putting real pressure on you to speed up, consider asking for your walk to be tested and then do it by the book ( no short cuts, no walking over gardens / walls / etc, no checking addresses as you walk - only when you are stationary ).
I don't suppose your mouth bleeds every 28 days, does it?

boy..... do parcel drivers have it easy compared to the walkers.

Looked really busy on the letter front so took a few extra packets to do my bit to help

gutted to see how many are coming in early these days and the amount of car users has increased. Its recruitment policy in our office to employ car owners.

Had a row with a line manager this morning (the one I had the B&H case against), I was put on a duty I had never done before so obviously I did'nt know the frame, he insisted I go sorting even tho I don't know the sorting for that particular postcoded area. Spoke to one of the reps who said you get 2 days without doing the sorting on a duty that you don't know, then the LM came over and said to him that he wanted everyone up sorting and the rep just shrugged his shoulders at me. Why are they always changing the goal posts when it suits them, I don't have a problem with the sorting its just that I did'nt want to hold up the rest of the bus, Oh well I'm off for a week now :nana
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

On a short day 2mz, due off at 1.45pm so will end up leaving loads. I hate cutting off but i don't need the money as much, so just gunna do my hours!

I dont mean to go against the grain but there is a manpower waste in Royal mail, defo in my office and i'm sure everywhere else. With indoor work if everybody just pulled together and worked as an office team rather than individual frames then i'm sure the business would run smoother. Its been awful watching people standing around watching others struggle and quite often making comments......especially full time staff on part -time. I sent a parcel driver in to a flying hissy fit today for suggesting he take a series of parcels for 1 house that would have filled a pouch on its own. I'm starting to understand why the bosses of RM want cuts because in my opinion there is capacity. They may be going about it in the wrong way but its right.

I tend to agree with you and if I am prepped early I will always help someone else who may be struggling, I was him once so I have every sympathy for their plight.

Also it sounds if we are lucky at my DO, if an address has a number of parcels that combined are large then the drivers, if not willingly, they do take them.

Agree with you there 100% mate.

I always try and help new starters as I remember being new and watching people sitting around waiting for the cage to open ( to get specials ) before they went out whilst I was still prepping letters. Thought at the time "what a selfish bunch of W*nkers".

At our place some people are overworked whilst others have it far too easy. Unfortunately our managers just never sort this out. Causes a lot of resent.

Back in today after my long weekend off. Rotation man threw the RM mailshot out on Monday, so they were still in the frame when I went in today. Hardly any packets, but with a short Tuesday, no chance of finishing on time.
