Dale Haddon left Royal Mail 4 years ago. Royal Mail have a team of negotiators including Mike Newby , Sue Whaley , John Milledge , Damien Kofe , Mark Rush , Gary Burgess, Tony Fox and a few others who come in on the various subjects.

RRIS is Recruitment and Retention supplement which was for areas who had problems with retention and recruitment during the last 1980s. TPM is the Total Productive Maintenance which was introduced in the last 1990s which gave a payment for OPGs who would resolve problems on automation machines.

I'm not sure whether trying to negotiate a raft of potential changes alongside the pension is a good thing, At some point Royal Mail will play one off against the other and the union will have to make sacrifices on one to protect the other.

As an aside does royal mail have a genuine blueprint for a new delivery model apart from the unworkable 3 bundle nonsense?

Royal mail puts in a raft of proposals. You cwu will compromise and we'll end up with a crap deal. That's what happened in the past anyway. Can't think last time we had a good deal.

daveyeff wrote:RM know nearly all of these proposals don't stand a cat in hells chance of getting in. union negotiators will reject them and a vote for strike action will see them all but pulled. the one they really want in is monthly pay. so when everything else is pulled it will seem like monthly pay is a good deal, as long as we don't get the rest of their proposals in. which they knew all along would have no chance. then they've got what they really wanted. AGAIN!!
^^^^THIS^^^^

We should all know how this farce works by now:

-They make 10 proposals, most of which are ludicrous
-Only 2 or 3 of the proposals do they actually want and expect to achieve
-The union after negotiation says 'look we managed to get them to retract 7 of their proposals'
-The 3 proposals the company actually want get through and we all think the CWU have done us a service and we got off lightly

We all know this right???

How many do you think RM would get if we didn't have a union.
This ain't no baseball game, you get only one chance and you blew it.

Yes we all know that but to be honest that's how the world works. It would be nice to see some honesty but if royal mail only came to the table with what they genuinely needed and stuck to their guns they would leave the union with no "out". That's not what either side wants.

Despite the threats you can't make changes to working practices without buy in from your staff and the union provides that buy in. It's a symbiotic relationship.

I'm not saying the Union don't do a certain amount of arm bending at the national level and obviously being officially recognised (by RM) they work hand in hand to end up with a package to put to the members. You are right without a Union we would be worse off I don't dispute that.

What I'm saying is we should consider which proposals are the 'real' ones and which ones can we ignore because they are sacrificial offerings?

Can you elaborate? What is the improvement over the original offer/proposal ?
