Re: London Dispute Update
The reason the London issue is being discussed is that everyone who looks at this issue based on the facts know there is a real risk that there will be complusory redundnacies if Royal Mail push ahead with their plan. Do you really think they will not us this tactic elsewhere if they get away with it in London . This is not about just London , it could be happening anywhere and it would still be a big issue.
This is not about bricks and mortar its about people. Mail centres have closed in all parts of the Uk including seven mail centre clousres in London since 1995 and there has been no disputes. Why because the people who want to stay in the job could do so by moving with the work. The difference in this case is that there are not enough jobs for people to move to and this then means that there is the real chance that people will be forced out of the job.
Now DGP London supported your dispute in Belfast and went on the march down the falls Road and Shankill road and support your reps and members during that differcult time, We also supported the Burslem workers and went on their march and picket lines. We have been on strike unofficial in support of Liverpool , Watford , Milton Keynes , Dartford , Greenford.
You see the issue is that we believe in unity and we dont do other peoples work and we support other workers in dispute. However there are rules which means that the office which is opposed to something must first fight the issue by strike action and the Branch must also support it.
There are too many people who are anti London due heresay and lies about the job in London. Management use it as a weapon to con people into turning worker against workers and sadly for some it has worked. But it is not true and whatever way it is spun what is hapening is wrong and needs to be stopped.

Isin't this the whole problem.............we (as a membership) get bugger all information from headquarters, the only info comes from management so people are going to believe that.dingo wrote:The reason the London issue is being discussed is that everyone who looks at this issue based on the facts know there is a real risk that there will be complusory redundnacies if Royal Mail push ahead with their plan. I'm not in Belfast and I still feel that we where hung out to dry by our leadership, the whole story is too long to get into on RMC but it did go the whole way to the top of RM.

Re: London Dispute Update
Well every time I hear a tale about London it doesn't come from management - we actually have a postie who relocated to us in the NW from THE MOUNT and I certainly believe the stories he tells, he worked in other areas of London too and our current DOM was a manager at the mount some years ago - now he may or may not be telling the truth........the postie? he has no reason to lie has he?
A thought just occurred to me - the 6th of June was D Day in 1944...........so I'm digging my tin hat out of the loft

For those of us who are strong enough to see beyond our propaganda-induced preconceptions and prejudices, the insidious nature of Royal Mail Managements divide-and-conquer strategy is on full display.

If you simply say that over and over again does it not become propaganda?MrGoose wrote:For those of us who are strong enough to see beyond our propaganda-induced preconceptions and prejudices, the insidious nature of Royal Mail Managements divide-and-conquer strategy is on full display.
The membership need real answers to real questions and won't be flannelled by soundbites from the "strong".
The union has whether it means to or not become rather adept at the "divide" part itself.
Some members and officials with their "us strong..you weak" chest beating have played right into Royal Mail's hands.
It would be hilarious if it wasn't so depressing.

Coupled with the 2010 Beyond reality agreement of the "winners and losers" scenario, one of the most divisive statements to come out of that debacle.Well we must assume that statement is still relevant.fishtank wrote:If you simply say that over and over again does it not become propaganda?MrGoose wrote:For those of us who are strong enough to see beyond our propaganda-induced preconceptions and prejudices, the insidious nature of Royal Mail Managements divide-and-conquer strategy is on full display.

Anglia News
LONDON’S FIGHT IS OUR FIGHT
You may ask what this has got to do with us outside of London. The answer is a simple one ‘Today Royal Mail is attacking London, Tomorrow it will be us’. Be under no illusion if Royal Mail get their way in London it will be the first time in the history of this union and the industry that there will be compulsory redundancies.
Royal Mail has stated in briefings & Manager’s briefing packs that there will be no ‘Compulsory Redundancies in London, at every level they have failed to demonstrate this to the CWU. They state they are making changes without any compulsory redundancies; the facts are that they cannot deal with the people issues or provide enough jobs in the proposed one remaining London Mail Centre. A square peg does not fit into a round hole!
Royal Mail states in its Managers’ Briefing that it is fully committed to all aspects of the Business Transformation Agreement, under the Job Security & Managing Change section they give cast iron commitment to no compulsory redundancies “In addition to the job security commitments contained in the MTSF Agreement Royal Mail and the CWU confirm that the overarching objective is to deliver transformation ‘without’ recourse to compulsory redundancies. The CWU remains fully committed to the terms of the agreement.
It is clear that Royal Mail has already shown disregard for and broken the Transformation Agreement.
Colleague Share withdrawn a few weeks before you were due to get your £1400.00 pay out. There are clear parallels between Colleague Share and the Governments’ Privatisation and separation agenda. The share value as it stands to date is £0.00.
Royal Mails’ introduction of a new Business plan in cahoots with the Government without any CWU involvement clearly attacks’ our members, Terms & Conditions, existing National Agreements, job security and managing our people’s issues.
Our colleagues in London have recently been balloted over the closure of two Mail Centre & a Delivery Unit in Rathebone Place. The membership in London returned an overwhelming ‘YES’ vote for industrial action including the receiving office at Mount Pleasant who also returned a massive Yes vote in support of their colleagues.
Everything our union has achieved for the benefit of our members terms & conditions and our futures has been achieved through solidarity, standing together with our postal colleagues across the country, an attack on one office is an attack on all of us. We cannot allow Royal Mail to pick off offices one by one and isolate CWU members’ to believe they have no choice. We must support our London Colleagues and remember what is at stake in this dispute Royal Mail does not care about you, your jobs, or your future – it will be your job next.
Royal Mail is after your jobs, your futures. If called upon support your Colleagues, Support your Union and support your futures.

If it so toxic,if it is so frightening,if it is so terrible it makes the present one look like a good idea....
Show us it.
If it's that bad you won't need to campaign for an IA ballot acceptance...
Surely the new business plan will do all the work.

Re: London Dispute Update
I think that we're just supposed to obey and not question the will of our esteemed leaders, they probably think we're too stupid to understand.fishtank wrote:If it so clearly attacks’ our members, Terms & Conditions, existing National Agreements, job security and managing our people’s issues.Royal Mails’ introduction of a new Business plan in cahoots with the Government without any CWU involvement clearly attacks’ our members, Terms & Conditions, existing National Agreements, job security and managing our people’s issues.

The CWU are playing right into RMs hands by being either too arrogant or too stupid to actually talk to us and apologise for the bollocks that they sold to us in the last agreement.
I don't believe this is about what will happen in the rest of the country and more to do with what will happen in London alone.
BUT
I am willing to be convinced but it's going to take an awful lot to do that to myself and others.
