The pandemic has not affected all duties equally.
If you're on a business duty you won't have seen the increase in parcels that town duties have seen, half your businesses could also be shut.
Rurals may have the increased parcels but because they're usually driving there anyway and the opportunities for safe places are greater the impact on delivery times is less.
Some areas have also been hit harder than others.
Some offices are just poorly managed.

If bringing people back to the office means people start dragging their feet and the amount of work getting done decreases they'll drop the idea pretty quickly.

Wouldn't that just end up with RM bringing in some sort of performance standards for the outdoor work (whether or not it's viable)

They wont because the way things are now, 90%+ of us are working at a faster more productive speed than any performance standard they could ever set.

If you just leave them on the doorstep regardless of waiting for an answer, then an increase doesn't make much of a difference.

No! I had arguments with managers about this, a lot of walks mainly driving duties have increased by about 45 minutes per day but some hct rounds which are nearly all shops and businesses have decreased by about and hour I know because I covered one for 2 weeks in January as I used to do it and it was so easy it took 3 hours yet they have a full timer doing it, yet my usual walk takes 4.5 to 5 hours a day with so many large parcels, I even cut off regularly but managers let these hct walks finish at 12 o’clock it makes no sense at all

Every office is different at ours the part timers do their full hours on crap rounds and lapsing the worst bits of a duty, full timers generally an easy round plus a pathetic bit of lapsing picked on the old seniority again finish 1-2 hours early each day,
Support drivers used to finish 2 hours early each day now with more parcels 1 hour early at least.
Firm's duties are all shut so they are now taking an hour at most so they were leaving 3-4hours early each day(used to be 2-3) now they are finally forced to do 30minutes to 1hr more work after much whining moaning and tantrums.....to avoid this most try to do another firm drive as overtime for 7 hours pay for 1 hrs work so they don't have to do the lapsing frankly unbelievable that this crap goes on whilst they berate a part timer for not lapsing over their time whilst they pay 14.5 hours to a firm driver for 5hrs work....we have one guy who is teacher's pet and gets paid two postman's wages each week by doing two firms duties each day and still finishes in 5 hrs been doing this for year's for nearly £55k a year. Our place is corrupt it's a joke which isn't funny but this is facilitated by our managers that leave at 10:30 and area managers that don't care or union staff that just listen to the protected senior made guys. What yer gonna do start a revolution......thats not in the local agreements....I really hope the piss takers fall flat on their fat faces big wallets with the scan in/out but I doubt jack s**t will change the rot started with the part time shift and manipulation of seniority along with protection of the face fits crew from lazy corrupt management and their connection to the old boy network in Royal mail.

Its actually quite shocking really. Its the same in my office, some of the HCT duties can literally stroll around no matter how busy a day it is and it will never take more than 4 hours. Then there are walks where you can run around it on the quietest of Tuesdays and it will always take at least 4.5 hours.

Its really demoralising.

A lot of full timers in there late 50s and 60s are doing hct rounds, there not unfit at all and are out on delivery most days at 830 ish and finish normally by 12 whilst part time guys start delivery at 10 and finish about 3-330 it makes no sense and seems unfair and a decent manager would surely realise this is wrong and demoralising this should be stopped but I guess like everywhere managers have there favourites

An interesting read Andyman. I don't doubt a word of it, we've all got similiar aspects in our own DOs. It's a shame the New CEO doesn't read some of these post and realise what's going on inside his Business. To hear of some Posties taking that much piss... £55K FFS!

I agree with the majority that the clocking in/out system will make no difference to the general situation. It's a data gathering excercise and I believe it won't be used to re-balance duties, however every year the data will be produced to show that your DO can make X% of savings. As previously mentioned No Unit Rep will be able to argue with THE FACTS! The "Runners" will still be finishing early, and the "Overworked" will still be overworked.

I work at a Mail centre and people finish early regularly so will we have to wait til clocking out time

They're not allowed to use it to dock pay.
At the moment....

This is merely opinion/conjecture, but I expect the eventual reality of this will be flexibility. Want full time pay every week? Then do your full hours over five days.
Going home early on an easy day will result in you having to do extra at some point in that week, which is slightly preferable to paying you the hours you actually worked.

I think you're probably right.
At the moment it's an intelligence gathering exercise.
If the figures look in their favour it's banking hours.
Yes it's Saturday and of course you can go home early but next week you're due us an hour so you and a couple of your mates can cover that duty on Monday on top of your own to make up.

Sounds like there's scope for cutting a lot of hrs from your office in it's revision this yr. Can I ask if it's getting cleared every day? Ours has loads left in every day of the week.
