hadn`t been off sick for 2years then a few bouts of tonsilitis takes me over the 13 days ,line manager gives me a stage 1. he the tells me his wife is due to give birth so will have a weeks leave then a weeks sick !!!!!!!!!!! twats off all the time with one thing or another with his kids ,never hear of him getting a warning.
always thought warnings were at line managers discretion , never heard of anyone not getting a stage warning.

Theyre supposed to be at discretion but are now issued regardless but yeah i dont see managers being treated the same

there is no appeal on a stage 1. i think most ppl get them.

DISCRETION ,just had stage one meeting over 14 days off over AOD , sorry but laughed my nuts off cos interview conducted by manager just back after 6months with bad back. "Oh you didnt think I was going to issue a warning did you" answer" I did'nt give a toss"

We've got a screw who says there is no such thing as stress. Mind you, he had three weeks off when his dad died. I expect that was due to a bad back though.

my dad was a postie back in the fifties and sixties, the union used to keep
a check on your sick leave and tell you when you were due your next
spell of leave he says they used to be called whitly days, and every postie
took their due turn of sick leave

When I started in the 70's we had the union man around to inform you if you were due a "whitley" which was apparently an agreement regarding sick leave. If you hadn't had a day off sick for about a year you were told to go sick !Anyone remember them?

I dont remember them but was told about 'Whitley' days by some of the 'old timers'. They told me pretty much the same as what you have already said, they said you had a set number of days you had to take off a year sick and the Union would make sure you had taken them.... :Very Happy
