How stupid of me! I almost(!) believed RM, cheers for putting me right.BELIAL wrote:It's the well known physical inconstant, the more volumes decline the more s**t you deliver.Given the fact that RM were officially allowed to produce two completely different sets of accounts for last year, this obvious distortion should be fooling no one
I totally agree that RM spin the figures to suit their own needs. How else could a company that is losing millions afford to pay it's managers huge bonuses and still make a profit at the end of the year. Strange how the press disregard this, the old boy's club, funny handshakes all round or the New Kray Brothers?

Well that's the way I would look at it too, even if it means a bit more to pay out on the dockets.k979aaa wrote:To me volume mean's revenue or have i got it the wrong way round or has your manager/DOM?.heapsy wrote:Really can't see any diference to the traffic in our office. Except that we are on the IPS for longer than ever before in all the years I've worked there. (over 19 now)

I think you have to be really careful reading Courier/listening to WTL sessions about declining volume/traffic/turnover. It is quite possible turnover is declining (ie £££ in the till) while the actual number of items we have to IPS/prep and deliver is steady or increasing. It's our good friend DSA. In the business pages of the paper business is measured in ££££ not how much work you actually did.

In a competitive market it is often the case that you have to work more for less in order to retain a market share but our contract procurement people were underselling our products before we had competition and now have nowhere to go unless we actually give our services away. As a consumer I make informed choices about products I buy and rather than respond to the doorstep sellers and flashy advertising I search out reviews and reports from satisfied users - this inevitably leads me to paying a little more for something I want or need but so far has not led to any disappointments - cheap is not always the best option and we should ensure that the way we maintain our market share is by the quality of our products and services not necessarily the price - Amazon has just announced it is returning it's second class business to Royal Mail and I suspect they are just the tip of a very large iceberg.Izzy wrote:I think you have to be really careful reading Courier/listening to WTL sessions about declining volume/traffic/turnover. At the end of the day Royal Mail is still the best delivery network in the UK so the big posters who have gone down the DSA route are now going to look at whether is better to spend a few thousand less every year in postage or spend a bit more and get a better service with RM. With the problems in the banking sector (only those banks who were completely useless ie Northern Rock) send a lot of mail and they really only care about their bonuses so expect the banks to try to remain with the (ever decreasing) DSA suppliers and all the others will end up back with RM (I'm sure Fozz will disagree but as it's St Paddys Day and I'm drunk I don't care
