What is the sickness levels like in your office?

I've still got my 'holiday vouchers'. Too bad they couldn't pay me a decent enough wage to be able to go on holiday. Didn't win the car either!!!!
Isn't it strange how you can have an unblemished sick record for almost 6 years, when your back goes due to the falling mail volumes, you come back early thinking you're ok, much to the relief of your boss, then it goes again a few months later. Again you come back as soon as the doc says so, how do RM repay your dedication?

We had a postie just walk out yesterday he said he was sick and tired of being mucked about and was off its still not clear if hes gone sick or hes gone AWOL,poor sod they just keep on pushing until staff get to the end of thier teather and walk away then they bleet that sick levels are to high.

Yep, can understand why. It can be very stressful doing this job. You can feel your knees and back groaning just looking at your frame. You're right they do keep pushing, but it's not only the weak and the newbies that fold, some just snap. Lucky he only walked out, instead of decking someone on the way

When will the penny drop?
Two longest walks in our DO - roughly 4.5 hrs done properly, regular duty holders teararse to get done, both on long term sick aod's, one 8 months + and no return in sight.
Now thats efficient and cost effective?

The staff in our office are so fed up with all the hassel, yes it is the newer staff that find it more difficult to cope with these very short sighted managers that for the life of me seem to find it amusing not sure why,even the staff that have come back on rehab are bemused by some of the comments that the managers come out with.
In the good old days we use to have light duties to cover when staff had medical problems but we have'nt got that anymore,i have noticed for the first time how many walking wounded we have and the number has gone up and is still riseing year on year, they still have not worked it out that its the job where the rounds have been made larger and you have alot more weight to deal with.

Triallist:

Stage 1: 2 absences or 7 days in a 6 month period
Stage 2: 1 absence in the next 2 months

Very high in my office. And every stage warning is a GIVEN!! They want full-timers out to be reaplaced by part-timers. We have many new staff on 3-month contracts. Come the new changes the "old guys" won't be able to cope. Also agree that it's madness to assume that 64-year old blokes can do this job that has become increasingly physical.

At the moment it's okay - the "old guys" (loads of seniority) have easy walks so thay can cope. No problem with that! They did the s**te when they were new (and young -and fit). But now RM want to make them take out more - and then do part of another walk. The job is hard now - if I remain God knows how I will cope after my 60's.

more and more genuine sickness will become un - genuine as the work levels are now becoming un-realistic and will therefore cause a lot of problems ! still no-one cares do they !! ?? :lfo :cfo ive known posties with 30yrs service to have operations ,dr s notes and still trigger stage warnings ! the procedure for sickness is a disgrace and you cannot help GENUINE cases ! yet i fear now the twats running this shambolic job think we are robots !

The sickness levels have gone through the roof in our office...............................amongst the screws

We were down to two for the whole office today (sat)(over 100 walks)
You can see the defeat in their eyes,they've suddenly realised "flexibility"means them aswell and they dont like it
