65 000 water bottles. Are they having a laugh?

About 20 years ago our line manager received a phone call from a member of the public complaining that the postman was drunk.
The line manager (we shall call him Bob mainly because it is his name) knew it was highly unlikely the postman in question would be drunk and knowing he was a type 1 diabetic assumed it might be a medical problem. Bob didn't pretend he had a medical degree Hypo/hyper how did he know - but he went out and ensured the postie got medical attention.

I haven't seen another manager like Bob in the last 20 years. He certainly wouldn't have been fraudulently filling in a severe weather report.
But that really sums up the calibre of the chumps we have in charge nowadays.

I agree. Is anyone really going to go thirsty simply because Royal Mail haven't provided them with a plastic bottle to put water into? Anyone who would carry one of these will already have paid a visit to a pound shop.

The union should really have more important issues for their negotiators to focus on at the moment.
You have both fallen for the narrative pushed forward by the business (and to a certain extent the union) that this is all about water and rehydration.

It isn't.
It's about ensuring that working in temperatures of 34+C is as safe as possible.
To do that you have to first risk assess the situation both as an office and where members have known underlying health conditions on an individual basis. If you can't or won't get that right you don't deserve to manage a cake stall at the local market nevermind a delivery office.

The business lets these managers off the hook and throws out a plastic bottle smokescreen, the message that sends out to managers is that they can get away with anything and the business will have their back.

That lack of accountability leads to all kinds of behavioral issues including bullying and harassment, non payment of overtime, nepotism and cronyism.

If you fail to hold your managers to the highest of standards you end up with a shower of inept and corrupt fools dragging the business down and that unfortunately is what we mostly have.

They should of supplied us with water soluble tablets that help keep you hydrated during exercise. They are really good and replenish salts and electrolytes. Sun cream would of also been good.

Water bottles is just pathetic at best. All posties carry some form of these already.

The poor quality uniform doesn't help matters. I'd be more than happy to pay a deposit of some kind if we got uniform that was half decent.

I got a 1.7 litre bottle from Sho as keyworkers get a 50% discount. Worth looking as they're great and you can pass on the discount to a friend.

Good post woody.

You're quite right a plastic bottle doesn't cover the fact that posties are going off with stress and heart attacks because the business are expecting posties to deliver 2 or 3 days worth of mail and packets. Ah, just work your time and leave the rest of the loops; it will only be sat there waiting for you tomorrow along with tomorrows mail and packets. Its like running a race where you are not expected to finish but to drop out half way. How soul destroying is that?

Hot warning days should be starting at 4 and finishing delivery/shift at 12.
