Remember at ours sometimes walks would not go out for 2 or even 3 days! You would get something like 18 hours docket to clear it! And in them days your rate went up not down the more hours you did on O.T. Dont get me wrong there was a hell of a lot of work to do - probably about the same as we take out on one normal delivery now!

what about the little slips you had to get signed for your regs, PHG used to have to stick them back into the book when you
returned to the office it used to take hours.
Any missing ones and you were given a pink duplicate to get signed, also remember the surcharge stamps we had to stick
on underpaid mail and do a balance at the end of your shift.

God yes the Skin! I was a messenger boy in 1966 and had to clear three collection boxes. Damn keen to get out and go on holiday left all the mail in my bag and put the thing in my locker.
A week later it was found by the manager because of loads of complaints. Bloody lucky we had a good rep in those days.
Still feel sorry for the lads now. At least I have nearly finished my time in the RM, everything is beginning to look downhill now.
