What does a "political officer" do exactly?

Goddness only knows, but guess which party you have to be a member of before they'll let you be one?

How many guesses do I get, and can you give me a clue?

Here's a couple of clues:

Maintained a series of anti-trade union laws. Closed down hospitals. Closed down schools. Sold honours for cash. Took cash for deputy leadership bids. Support the fascist government on Bolivia. Went to war for American oil interests.

Go on! Have a guess!

Well I think it's hard but I'm going for a wild guess - LABOUR?

Well they seem to like splashing the cash to prop up some d*ckheads poor financial decisions - but the guys who pay to support them can whistle for a decent pay rise and a pension and retirement commensurate with the hard work they do.

A personal view point is that if a politcal officer has to belong to a political party, then let him or her chose from any of the pro trade union political parties.

Or even scrap the requirement to belong to labour or any other party and engage with ALL pro trade union politcal parties equally.

What would be the point of a political officer if he wasn't affiliated to a political party? Within the CWU and because the activities of a political officer are funded from the political fund then presumably IWW is correct and you have to be affiliated to the labour party. Incidentally which other political party has union sponsored MPs?

In my branch political officer has to be a labour party member, which is why i joined, small price to pay to do a union job i was extremley intrested in trying my hand at.

I presume but i do not for certain that is the rule in all branches.

Not aware of MP'S from other parties being sponsered by unions, but its worth investgating.

Unison and the RMT , but that's been a contentious issue with Bob Crowe sometimes . I can remember it flaring up over Gate Gourmet , and the strikers were not fanatics ( spelt properly ) , subversive communist agitators , dinosaurs from the 70's as the Daily Mail & Sun and those who read it too often would have you believe, but mostly Asian Women sticking up for themselves .
