I think that's if your employer wants you to work you can cancel your leave and legally defer it till next years allocation. RM don't want us to cancel holidays so i don't think that applies.Ringer21 wrote:I understand with RM you can carry 5 days over but can you cancel holidays to carry them over.
Have the government not brought something out at the start of the virus where you can carry 2 weeks holidays over but have to be taken within 2 years I might be wrong on that one but sure I read something similar.

You could try asking colleagues to swap a week or two with you. Some may want some time out away from all this parcel madness we are having at the moment, Also ask your line manager as well. RM policies are usually only taken as a guide by many managers and if you have good one they may be able to help, ours would if they could.

I'm not sure what's behind it but the business is desperate that staff take any prebooked holidays as normal even to the point that 'corporate' are being forced to take at least 2 weeks by the end of August even if they haven't booked it.
I have an employee who wants to change their holiday plans, what should I do?
The expectation is that employees take the time off that has been booked. Having a rest is important for everyone, especially at this time. Employees should carry forward no more than 5 days annual leave at the end of the year (March 2021) in line with our normal policy. We do not expect plans to be changed.
Why are only employees in corporate functions expected to take two weeks of their holiday by the end August 2020?
Operational colleagues have to book their leave in October for the following year. This means that operational colleagues have already booked and taken some of their annual leave with more planned during the summer months. Across corporate functions we know that many colleagues have not yet booked their leave. It is important at this busy time that everyone plans to have a break.
What about annual leave for those employees on maternity leave or long-term sickness absence?
Our normal policy will apply and those employees who are unable to take their holiday will be able to take their holiday at a later date when they return to work.
What about corporate employees on part time contracts?
Employees who work part time will have their annual leave entitlement calculated based on the hours they work i.e. on a pro rata basis. They should book 75% of this holiday entitlement by the end July and take two weeks of this entitlement by end August.
What about employees who have only been employed for part of the year?
Our normal policy will apply, and they will receive their annual leave entitlement on a pro rata basis. It will depend on when they joined Royal Mail what annual leave should be taken.

Also Royal Mail always champion themselves as caring about it's employee's mental health. Well what is healthy about being stuck on leave for 3 weeks with virtually nothing to do?
Wish i had 3 weeks off. Plenty to do,have a rest,go for a walk /bikeride in the countyside,/seaside/hills etc read ,sit in the garden with beers, music and a bbq, volunteer and help less fortunate people, suppose there are jobs around the house to do the list is endless if you put your mind to it.
Exactly bud. That's what I'm doing. Working from home but not to hard. DWP are not as busy as they are making out. Anyway, get the chicken and shrimps on the go.mmmmm.
