My office has been on a 4 day week for 18 months now and we love it.I dont care if i work to my time every day,2 days of a week which rotateits my long weekend this week finished yesterday back in next Wednesday
and we get that every third week. When i first started we worked 6 days ,then we went to 11 day fortnight, then a nine day fortnight, then a five day week and now a 4 day
next up a 3 day week
All introduced by our branch when Dave used to be in charge and encouraged our reps to get these sort of duties for us.It can and has been done ,ok you work a little bit harder but its well worth it,also if you want to work your Rest days on docket earnings are there as well
How do the dutys span out then?
Give us a normal day,how long is the average walk, how big ect.
There is no way that we can absorb half a walk into another at my place,it would kill us.
Before we had these 4 day weeks we were on a 5 day with night duties and we used to do our late collections on S/A.
So our area rep asked do we fancy a 4 day but we would loose 5 walks, 4 night dutys and all our late S/A,(which was about 120 hours a week). After a big debate and a vote we went to the 4 day week.None of our walks are over 3.5 some a lot less, average about 3 hours.Management know this and want dutys, but we will see.A 318 is this
05.30-07.30 IPS
07.30-10.00 Prep,redirections etc.
Meal breaks are taken between 09.30-11.00.
11.00-15-30 Delivery(which includes travel to 1st point and return to office)
As you can see we have plenty of scope for heavy days, network failures,door2doors etc. Some might say scope for flexability as well, but our night S/A is going and they want 2 walks as well so we shall wait and see.Walks may get longer with new technology etc but we should be telling them what we want in return for savings and efficiency etc. and make sure we get it.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

How would a 4 day pattern work with part timers - after all offices are having FT walks replaced with PT contracts ( in my personal case, I get 30 hrs over 5 days - I miss out the IPS & have to "find" the extra 30 mins per day ). Would it be done pro rata? Or would it be 30 hrs over 3 days? Or is it just something worked out in individual offices to their satisfaction?
On the flip side, doing 10 hrs a day, would make it very easy for RM to switch every walk to PT ( in the long term ) - just delete the 2 hrs for IPS, and imo, for me, it would make it easier to get a top-up job ( 1-2 days a week, rather than a few hrs in the evening, every night - especially as I could earn more driving than I could as a packer or call handler in some "black hole of Calcutta" warehouse or call centre

I don't suppose your mouth bleeds every 28 days, does it?

Then we can save up the extra hours worked and whenever it reaches 40hrs we get another week off
