plus there are current 41 adverts for post people on RM s website with each advert needing multiple positions filling, i think they wouldnt have authorized these or taken them down if true.

it sounds like a load shite to me as most delivery offices are way under staff as it is and posties cant do what they have now never mind getting even more , and if this was true I think the CWU would have stepped in to what they have to do to stop it ,

There is a difference between recruiting and removing hours.
If they remove 3 full time positions and fill them with 3 x 25 hour contracts then they have taken out 39 hours/week.
But still have enough bums on seats to ensure the duties are delivered.

Very unlikely it will happen by Friday.

Removing 40 hours seems more likely. Yet in that case, regardless of which walk is or isn’t axed and how it’s redistributed, the only way they’re going to be able to cut back in practice is by dramatically slashing overtime for PT staff, and giving more work to full-timers who finish early. I’m sure my office isn’t the only one where PTers usually prep the walk they’re delivering.

but theyll then need those 3 on 25hrs to come in 2 and 1/2 hrs early each day to prep the walks in on ot, so itll end up costing them 38 hrs on ot on top of 3 25 hr contracts so they save about an hour!

Perhaps the theory from above was if all the Royal Mail delivery offices lost at least one member of staff then just think of how much they could save overall as a business? The fact that they could end up paying some of it back in terms of getting staff in early and paying overtime to complete the lapsed duties is irrelevant.

Perhaps those who are in their twilight years could be the ones that could be asked to leave and perhaps with a decent payoff they might even go as well regardless of the fact that they may be already well off financially.....

They'd end up paying most of it back in OT and then they have to pay the people off they've got rid of so they wont actually gain anything financially by doing this they might even loose.
