Ring of truth in that statementEdward Hunter wrote:The trouble with RM is everyone thinks they are a manager. So much "snitching" goes on about what other people are doing/not doing its cringeworthy. The other thing that happens is when people "joke" in front of the DOM about something a colleague has done that potentially could be quite serious (conduct code offence) I just think sometimes people should get on with doing there own job and let the managers sort out the problems.

It can take a while
Although I have just read several examples of blatant piss takers. It is worth remembering, that there are a small number of us who actually DO have medical problems which can lead to this kind of problem.
For example: I suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and although most of the time it's under control, I do have problems from time to time. On a bad day, I can end up being in the loo for longer than normal, and more frequently too.
I don't get hassled about it though, because I make up the time by coming back early from my break, and if neccessary, starting a bit early the following day. Not everyone is so concientious though.
I know it's embarrasing, but if someone does seem to be taking too long, on a regular basis. Try asking them discreetly, if there is a problem, before getting pissed off with them.

"Who give's a s**t after all it's the gaffa's problem no more no less for they will carry the can when the work is not done when all said and dun!."
But the point is this: 95% of Royal Mail managers are about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike when it comes to chasing-up the duckers and the divers, the work-shy and the skivers. I give a sh*t because the work still gets done despite the ineptitude of the management, so there's no 'can' for them to carry. But the p!ss-takers are taking the p!ss out of their own workmates![]()
When I first started at Royal Mail, our office was fairly militant, and I would - and did - walk out without a second's hesitation in support of any of my colleagues if management starting getting heavy-handed. Nowadays, though, I am absolutely certain that I would not walk out for some of the blatant p!ss-takers that end up burdening me and their other colleagues with an unfair share of the workload. Life isn't black-and-white. Most of my colleagues have earned my respect over the years, but there are some that frankly don't deserve my respect or my support, when they are sh!tting on me on a daily basis.

This isn't about snitching, it is about everyone working fairly. We all get the same wage, why should some do more work for it than others. This is part of what is causing the lack of morale in offices.....so make the DOM do the job THEY are paid to do & get them to chase up these shirkers!
RM are the only company I've worked for where shirkers get carte blanche to do what they want & workers get dumped on from an ever greater height!

It's an odd coincidence, because this thread was on my mind today when a manager approached me 15 mins before the end of shift, and started to ask me to go on some machinery. I informed him that I did not consider it a 'reasonable request', in light of the fact that at least four people were missing off the floor and I thought we must therefore have already finished for the day. I'm heartily sick of managers expecting more from those who do work, and I'm equally sick of the culture that says you mustn't 'grass people up' and put up with being crapped on by your supposed 'mates'. It's no wonder Royal Mail keep relying on migrant workers. They can't rely on an increasing percentage of p!ss-takers who drag morale down and make others take the attitude "f*ck this, if the skivers aren't chased by the inept managers, might as well feckin' join 'em"

Re: It can take a while
Not knowing much about IBS, Andy, can you tell me if there any known cases of this condition that result in a sufferer having bowel movements at precisely the same time of day, every working day ? 'Cause what p!sses people off is the clowns who only go to the loo at the first sight of any work arrivingandy2007 wrote:Although I have just read several examples of blatant piss takers. Very valid comments. Today I was asked to deliver two packets, this by a colleague on the same pay and hours as me, with an easier round and who invariably can finish an hour or two earlier than me ! 'Piss-takers' indeed.Carnoustie wrote:It's an odd coincidence, because this thread was on my mind today when a manager approached me 15 mins before the end of shift, and started to ask me to go on some machinery. No, that's how I knew that the examples given here were of piss takers. The potential problem, is where there are people who don't dissapear at the same time every day. But DO take an unusually long time when they do, and also go more frequently than others.Carnoustie wrote:Not knowing much about IBS, Andy, can you tell me if there any known cases of this condition that result in a sufferer having bowel movements at precisely the same time of day, every working day ? People have, on occasion passed comment on the fact that I sometimes spend a long time on the toilet, not once, but a few times in the same shift. That's why I try to make sure that I make up the time later. There is also someone else I know, on my Shift who has similar problems. Thankfully, it's not something which happens too often (another way of noticing who is taking the piss).

I totally agree with you. I have told colleagues off before for not minding their own business because sometimes people get things wrong and this could cause someone to be disciplined due to false allegations. If people are taking the p*** leave it to the managers to sort out because you are more likely to get done for bullying and harassment.Edward Hunter wrote:The trouble with RM is everyone thinks they are a manager. So much "snitching" goes on about what other people are doing/not doing its cringeworthy. Easier said than done
that's it in a nutshell , even if you have a spine !, the usual one we try is slow the job down , but we've had spurious & frivolous B&H threats , plenty of over zealous idiots in charge that make excellent Recruiting Sergeants for the vile BNP that'd do anything to impress . RM is in a 80's Time Warp , like those loony left councils in London at that time .mailsort6 wrote:I totally agree with you. Best one was "Rose West " in Lancashire , a former Harassment Officer , the former rep who went on the Road to Damascus being put on one for making the idle b***ers work .RM does not do irony .
Then there's the time honored problems of nepotism , corruption and favourtisim , lot's of spoilt , bullet headed people that are "protected "by The Might of Royal Fail .

That's the point I was trying to make
That's the point I was trying to make. You see, sometimes there are genuine reasons why these things are happening. You won't know until you ask.lanesra123 wrote:I don't supppose any of you lot have thought of growing a spine, and maybe having a word with these so called "piss takers"
For example: I didn't know that Crones Disease could cause worse problems than mine, and account for some of the examples in this Thread.
It just goes to show how important it is to talk to people before reporting them. Especially if it is a potentially embarrasing situation to confront them with.
