A complete joke, the 35 hour week will never happen and there will be yet another tier of short contract workers arguing with each other over who does what work, when and how long the breaks are etc etc. Brilliant for the company.

anything over 38 hours is less becasue there is no delivery supplement - whether contracted hours or OT, the tax rate is the same.

Yepp, this is the result of the failure of the Union in my opinion. They should have fought hard to protect permanent Full-time Jobs, not push for a 35 hour week based on "efficiency savings" that are nigh on impossible to deliver.
All they've done is put a hard cap for what contracts Royal Mail will now offer, and an opportunity for them to renege on any more reductions. The shorter working week was ill-conceived from the outset.
The interesting thing will be, if we fail to reduce to 37 hours in October, will the 35 hour cap on contracts persist? I suspect it will.
Furthermore, if you take over a 38 hour duty, and they give you a 35 hour contract. Tell them you'll only be working 35 hours. If they insist you work the 38, they're breaking employment law by not paying 38 hours during holidays. As, the reason they claim they don't have to pay you equivalent to what you actually work, is that ALL overtime is voluntary.
