Well milkmen and bus conductors probably thought much the same . . .

But really one thing I do think is a concern is the falling share price reaching a point where a takeover could happen.

That was a non-starter from the beginning. Some DOs wouldn't have got their sequenced mail till late morning or even the afternoon.

Letters have definitely dropped, just need to take a look at the sequencing batch sizes (don't know how much of that is down to the GDPR).

All that will happen if they get rid of more staff is that failures will become more frequent and larger in size (could even result eventually in all mech mail just being sent manual to free up enough staff to get the rest of the work out)

if letters now loses money then surely RM should be allowed to increase direct access prices, surely Ofcom must help us to breakeven on letters if they want us to keep universal service??

There is no crisis

The share price is being deliberately shortened via complete overreactions by the company

There is no doubt these are being bought up at the cheaper price by certain people who know fine well to sit tight and watch them soar in years to come

In fact it actually says on the accounts that letters are down against the previous year but the previous year was abnormally high

Thats like winning the lottery one year then the next saying 'my income is 95% less this year than last!'
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

I hope it’s not last in first out. I would feel slightly aggrieved that I have come in and done my driving, while others outright refuse and constantly refuse other duties while I get moved all over the place with no complaint

In my opinion jobs on delivery are the safest out of all of the Royal Mail workers, I know that will disappoint some of you :Very Happy

Mail centre workers, collections and distribution are where I think the harshest cuts could be made.

I don't think delivery jobs are any safer than MC jobs, you could just as easily be replaced with casuals/agency or end up on zero hour contracts or self employed

Collections will nearly all be done on deliveries soon, easy savings to be made there.

Distribution have gotbit easy at the moment so there must be big savings to be made there.

Deliveries have already been raped constantly over the last 10 or so years but no doubt they will try to squeeze so more efficiency using PDA actuals that will probably backfire and make any sound minded postie slow down.

We don't get all the casuals/agency workers at Christmas or have many working the rest of the year? Why's that? And why are they always advertising for postie's(about 100 jobs across the country at the moment)? 6 vacancies have been going at my office for a year, they've just finished filling them all, not one agency worker has been used. We never get the chance to apply for MC jobs now, why?

JKSmudge wrote:The reality is RM expect to make ONLY £500m - £530m profit this financial year.
The target profit is only twenty million down from Mr Blacks forecast. To be honest if RM hadn't spent money on buying failing courier companies in other countries and then had to write them off as a loss we wouldn't be in such a mess. Mr Black seems to be painting a blacker picture than the reality which isn't that bad. Ten percent increase in parcels while running down our capacity to deliver isn't to be sniffed at. We need new upper management, directors, and CEO ASAP!!!!!
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.

I wouldn't put it past RM to look at the feasibility of having a haulage company (something on the lines of Eddie Stobbart) take over all MC-RDC, MC-MC and MC-DO runs.

When anyone leaves the MC either transferring to another office or leaving the business, the hours used by their duty are removed and are never replaced. If you added together on any given shift those doing docket (either MC staff or DO staff) and the agency/casuals, they probably outnumber the regular staff, occasionally by 2 or 3 times.

Have to agree with you there. I know an office with rurals - one of the rurals one box is emptied but the driver goes past a further four.
Adjoining rurals (same office) drive past a further seven but don't empty any of them. It must take the collections
driver who comes out from city office at least one hour of driving round country lanes to empty these boxes which could be emptied at about
two minutes per box max as they probably don't get a lot of mail in them anyway.

Mail is definitely down by volume but the work still takes the same amount of time due to a rise in packet volume . Emails / Internet I think is the reason for both . I wouldn't take VR without giving Parcel Force a shot . They've got to be stretched if our packet volume has gone up .
