Chalky13 wrote:This is a huge bone of contention in our office. During the summer the PDA actuals were put in place, only a few ghosted and were told to work the hours they made extra to pay it back! IE finishing 3hr SA in normal duty time.

Now it’s a free for all again, theactuals are currently not officially in use, but we’re under the impression the data is being monitored currently.

The “clever” ones are going slow again guessing that will mean they won’t get any work added to their duty. Others are flying round and finishing at 1 every day, others are doing their duty and SA by 2:30

Who knows where it will go. But there is no uniform way of working across the RM offices, which is scandalous. There’s also no communication from the DOM to say what hours are being monitored.

For me now, I’m starting at my start time, not rushing and doing things straight, finishing when I finish. If it’s 2, 2:30 or 3.

I know for a fact though, as soon as it’s said the actuals are being used in the manner planned, to monitor duty time and deliveries, the 1 o’clockers will get back at 2:15 again.
I think it's probably safe to say that the PDA actuals data is being stored or catalogued somewhere. Eventually when RM want to drastically rework the way we work or demand back hours across the network all that PDA data will be brought out and used to determine where cuts can be made. Where posties have been going home early consistently there will be no way to argue a way out. More walks will be dismantled and the work spread among the remaining walks.
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.

In our office, it’s clear to see what walks can be done quicker than others and who are hanging it out every day to make it look busier than it is.

But in part, that’s down to the posties as much as the walk. In particular, 2 walks get done easily every day, except when the floaters are on them, then it’s not completed til duty time or later. Makes you wonder how a pair of walks can differ between regular posties by anything from 1.5-2 hours

It’s not as though the floaters don’t know it or are new.

It’s a topic that goes round and round every time it’s brought up, but I think more interesting to the OP is what is the best course of action if you either want to blow the whistle on time being booked that isn’t worked; whether there would likely be any consequences; and who and exactly why would someone be culpable.

Answer? it guz on loads and no one does nowt.

Great the children have got involved and started calling each other names. Sometimes I wonder why I spend time on this site.

Let's make it clear: If you can't debate without calling people names, or using put-downs then this site ain't for you. The rules are there for a reason, and people do disagree with each other, but we are all adults so show some maturity and dignity, don't bring the B&H culture here, it makes you no better than a bullying manager.

No point in bringing jealousy into the discussion, unless you are trying to trigger others. :arrrghhh

onthecase wrote:Please can anyone tell me if they know of any managers that have been disciplined for knowingly paying out for ghost overtime in the last 12 months,in London and SE Region. From my understanding it is misconduct offence for managers to sign it off.(signing off overtime for someone finnishing at say 5pm when they know they finnished at 3pm) Please correct me if you know anything please.

No managers that I know have been disciplined for ghost overtime but DOM has in the past been trying to save on the budget by getting the managers to do delivery work. For some reason though we have now reverted back to how it was with a few staff doing overtime but finishing on time and getting paid extra for it. I don't necessarily agree with this but if mail/packets get left it means our service and USO suffers and for the sake of all of us thats the last thing that we want.

There was one instance a few years ago of a court case for fraudulent overtime https://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communi ... ud#p673793" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - he wasn't a postie but what he did was essentially ghosting

It's wrong, it's fraudulent, it's obviously against company policy and if push comes to shove management will throw you under a bus to save themselves.

As long as you understand that and don't come crying to your rep or on here if it goes pearshaped carry on.

Difference is I'm guessing he was fiddling the books so he was claiming overtime and hadn't done any extra work. When postie's Ghost they have actually done the work they are getting paid for, admittedly they might have done it in a faster time than what their manager was willing to pay them to do it

If you hadn't read the article there is this one line, which is a description of Ghosting
he had been receiving overtime payments, but for hours he had not worked
So whilst I don't ghost or do any overtime and I won't say if its right or wrong morally, but, if people do ghost then they should be aware of the possible consequences and accept them.

It depends on how you look at it. Claiming for hours you don’t work is fraudulent. If your manager says he’ll give you 3 hours and it only takes you 2, it’s not fraudulent, it’s time and a half. Unless you then sign that you done 3 hours work, then it becomes fraudulent.
