mines a neutral point of view towards our rep. I don't think he knows about big changes or other, rather than he is just passing on hearsay (as I am on here) from our union hierarchy and maybe management.number one wrote:Haha.. some people say Reps are useless and don’t know anything and some think their Reps know about big changes and how the business will be in the next few yearsdaveyeff wrote:well the rep also said ''big BIG changes coming in the next few years''......RM will go from being predominantly a letters and parcels company to mostly parcels. maybe EVRs or another option would be to train non-drivers to be drivers at company cost if its cheaper than EVRs, or both.

We can go to 35hr weeks but you'll be getting your mail from the MCs 2-3 hours later and have even less mail sequencedgary1975 wrote:Cue space Phoenix

I reckon Terry will have retired by 2021/22, when we've passed that cusp of something special......job done......Woody Guthrie wrote: I don't think Terry can predict where we'll be next week never mind 2021/22.

That's the first stage dropping from 39 to 38 hours.number one wrote:I thought the sww was dependant of agreeing to the trials which we have done, there’s nothing in the agreement that says new delivery methods have to be implemented nationally. The rest will never happen. RM and CWU have agreed that the drop will be self funding ie we have to be more efficient. The drop from 39 to 38 hours has been a shambles, any other drop will be dependant on losing paid breaks.

But he (the CWU) has agreed, in black and white for all to see, that the rest of the SSW (from 38 hours down) is fully self-funding. There has to be cuts and savings before it will happen.daveyeff wrote:according to our area rep, (who says he's been talking to Terry Pullinger) we WILL be on 35 hrs by 2021/2022. trials or no trials. take from that what you will.
You can knock 40 mins a day off by losing paid breaks. Other than that, there will have to be some amazing new technology that helps us deliver more mail in less time for us to drop any more from 38 hours a week.

It will depend on a number of factors and it could go either way. I don't think Terry saying it has to happen on schedule means that it will be implemented.TheTrolleyMan wrote:Now that the delivery trials have been cancelled does that mean delivery posties won't get another hour off the working week next year ? I've heard that processing staff will be automatically dropping to 37 hr weeks next OCTOBER .
1) If RM decide that the conditions haven't been met then no more hours of SWW will happen. We have already had the share smashing statement from Black that suggested all the planned cuts from Moyas grand plan will likely not occur. This will mean Moya won't get any more millions in bonuses which is good.
2) I think if D2Ds could be packaged into sets this could cover the loss of work time from all five hours of SWW. The main factor is probably if the contractors would be happy having their leaflets packaged into sets or if they feel this would make it less effective and result in less revenue generation.
3) It will also depend on how us posties have reacted to and dealt with the SWW. Posties have said on this forum that many are coming in closer to time and booking extended but I don't know if that is the case or not. Certainly in the DO I work in little notice has been taken of the first two hours of SWW. It has moved our start time from 0600 to 0612 then 0624 but many are still coming into work well before 0600. We aren't allowed to book overtime/extended so if we go over as a result of the SWW that work will be done unpaid.
If many or most posties are covering the cost of the SWW themselves and the time isn't generally being booked then RM may view the SWW as a paper exercise and allow the remaining hours of SWW to happen.
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.

the first hour we had just had is put in to just agree to the trials , but next Octobers 1 hour reduction is down to the input of trials , so its a bit dodgy if you ask ,number one wrote:I thought the sww was dependant of agreeing to the trials which we have done, there’s nothing in the agreement that says new delivery methods have to be implemented nationally. so you have posties starting early and working for nowt and your saying that you cant claim excess ? why ? so your working for nowt as well then f**k that if they don't want to pay for going over just finish on your time and take it back , its not our problem to lose the hour off the working week its theres , and its a big NO NO to work for nowt .Celgar wrote:It will depend on a number of factors and it could go either way. just look at what has been added to deliverys since p&l came in , collections , 2d scanning , tracked parcels , knocking on neighbour , big increase in parcels and pkts every year , new builds , duty sizes and non of this has been factored into your delivery at least 8 years on and r/m cant understand why you cant get done within your hours or the company cant save nowt , I think its time to go back and strip the lot and redo it all but do it properly and not what times the dims or planners think it should take you , until then nothing will change and as a company it will fail . but who cares as the moral in most places are rock bottom .

There is a bit of gaming going on by Royal Mail with regards to the letters.
Delivering letters on their own loses money.
Delivering Parcels on their own loses money.
Delivering both together makes money.
That's because you have two revenue streams and only one cost.
Stopping letter deliveries or even reducing the service across the board to three days would mean we would have to increase our parcel prices considerably, the parcel market is extremely competitive and we'd be eaten alive by the likes of DPD.
Although I can see rural deliveries being reduced I think what RM really wants from the regulator is a subsidised USO possibly funded by a levy on the likes of TNT and Wistl or at the very least more freedom to change a realistic cost for Direct Access mail.

And losing paid breaks is what RM want because for every 12 posties working with unpaid breaks they could have a part time postie on a 24hr contract for free. Basically 2 hrs per week per person is lots of .millions of pounds for the rich state getting fat at our expense. If the union EVER let that happen they would be finished. I can't see it happen but sick pay and NDA are the big ones that they are coming for.NewPostieUK wrote:That's the first stage dropping from 39 to 38 hours.number one wrote:I thought the sww was dependant of agreeing to the trials which we have done, there’s nothing in the agreement that says new delivery methods have to be implemented nationally.
