Imagine you have a packet for 42 Acacia Avenue.
You would find 42 Acacia Avenue in your bundle and mark it in your preferred fashion - write a P on the letter or introduce a 739 card as a reminder.
Imagine you now have a packet for 50 Acacia Avenue …
Follow the same procedure.

Is someone going to ask how you do redirections?
Perhaps it is just my skeptic mindset, but surely it's much quicker the current way? Moving to a specific point in the frame to mark a packet, or look for a redirection. I cannot believe flicking through a bundle/tray of mail is quicker than going to the exact point of a frame.

I agree , imagine doing this from October onwards :left: , even down to tying your mail up flicking through mail to find your end of the loops then tying it up and then in bags , f***ing clueless comes to mind , but never mind we have a finish time :wave .

and the % of sequenced in wave 2 will be dropping now that Network 18 is taking affect

There was a Canadian guy on here many years ago warning us of exactly this having been implemented over there under Moya's rule. The parting gift?

You would still use a LWT or HCT

take into account wind rain and outside conditions ....

this will be fun

looks like i will only be able to do 1/2 of my walk ....

good times ahead

A couple of responses :

1 Space it does not matter if the first wave is late or more as it is not going to be sorted.

2. if more comes on the second wave than it will mean you have more to throw into the frame.

3. Each frame will have a bench merger where you put a Street / Road in after you prep your second wave of sequenced and manual you than use the bench merger to merge the fist wave and what you have prepped into one bundle.

4. You collate your d2d by using the bench merger. The national average of d2d is 2.4 less than it was in 2010. There are hotspots like Reading and that corridor who do get 6 or more but they will be the first phase of the new d2d collating machine .

5. In terms of prove if concept. This was done in the Wasall trail so has already been trailed.

6. With your bundle of sequenced and manual mail you will take out either 17% of the D2D or 20% and merge that outdoors. Or I assume if you wanted you could simply bench merge the 17% or 20% d2d when you do you one bundle .

7. This is one of 8 trails of diferent options but they all are around not sorting into the frame.

8. The Mail Centre aleignment Agreement which got launched at a Briefing today of Reps will review each shift to ensure that earlies , lates , nights and twilights have the numbers and workload they should have. Clearly Royal Mail believe that the numbers of agency staff in Mail Centre are because there are to many early duties Instead of more duties on the late where the work load.

Sir Henry wrote:So first wave mech is not put in the frame, second wave mech and manual is put in the frame then slotted into the correct place in the first wave mech. Where will this happen? Do we empty the 1st wave from the tray onto the bench then slot the second wave into the first wave? We then bundle up and count out the correct amount of d2d for that bundle? Is the new relationship between RM and CWU a performance art piece? Am I having a stroke?

How do you know if a d2d has already been delivered to a house earlier that week?
It’s all well and good saying ok well take 20% but if I’m on a duty I don’t know particularly well and half way through a loop there’s 5d2ds how am I meant to know where to put them?

If your still going to have a frame wouldn't it be easier to collate the d2d directly into it for the day and merge them with the mail into the 1st wave mech? Would make it easier for people who get moved about all week to know which d2ds to do when they don't know a delivery

I'd love to see a real time, real world 600+ address duty demonstration video of this, because currently in my mind any time saved by not throwing in the first wave into the frame is going to be lost by things like...
Merging in the second wave, flicking through the first wave on bench
Flicking through the first wave on the bench to find an address letter to back face as a parcel prompt
Flicking through the mail on the bench to find specific redirection addresses
Merging D2D correctly with mail outdoors in real UK weather (which means you also need to flick through mail on bench to mark where D2Ds begin that day)
Because you no longer put D2D in the frame, you no longer have the option of taking them only where you have other mail, so we will all be cold calling with just D2D for addresses which means more walking and more outdoor time. Just on a typical Tuesday, you now have easily added ~40+ more homes (out of ~100 with D2D) we have to deliver to
Etc etc

Only if you believe saving time is the goal.
Smaller frame - more space = more DOs under one roof and therefore more real estate to sell.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

and when we have to split a wave one batch and run it as two lots where there's too much to run in one go (will be more common in the autumn)

Remember bench merging is a form of what we used to do in Royal Mail before prep 2000 frames came. We used to sort a walk into a 48 or 56 box frame and than on sort each slot into the correct order.

The only difference this time is that the first wave will not be sequenced.

Remember this is trail and it will either work and deliver what Royal Mail want or not.

The reason why D2D are not going to be thrown into a frame is that in the medium to long term they have now got the money to buy two collating machines which will collate all the D2D into the Uk.
