well done cwu with our new found working together agreement
same old s**t
It has always been a thing with RM to count mail when a postie cuts off and brings it back. I don't know the specifics but if a certain percentage of a walk is delivered it doesn't bother the regulator so much or something like that. So not wishing to defend 'the man' but this isn't to do with the latest agreement.

?????? our lapsing started 3 years ago everyday
Summer lapsing is different and additional to ordinary lapsing/absorption/etc. Don't worry our office didn't get away with anything. We started with single absorption which over time changed to double absorption. Last year we had a revision which permanently added the double absorption to every walk. We also closed down two walks and added those delivery points to the remaining walks.

Is anyone getting extra leave slots due to summer lapsing, have your reps negotiated anything, if not, you need to get this looked into and to get your area rep on the case.

And give your rep a clip round the ear!

We have extra summer leave slots for summer lapsing, but we've been told that if the lapsing isn't taken, there will be a reduction in summer leave slots next year. That's all well and good, but how the lapsing is allocated to some duties make no sense, they have a proven history of needing overtime pretty much everyday just to complete their own duty before the extra time required to do the lapsing on top... While other duties are still finishing way before their contract hours, even allowing for them not having taken any of their meal relief. But then no two posties work the same, there's no such thing as real world national standards within RM in my experience.

They don't. They are just so obsessed with us working every second that we get paid for, they don't care of it actually costs them more.

Yes we had three AL weeks slots for each week available in July and August last year and I presume it's the same this year.

Our office has been lasping since Xmas usually about six walks they try to put 4 loops on a firms duty last week and everyday he just bought it back.

No good going to see the rep though he’s the bookroom guy so he’s just making his own job easier.

PDA actuals work both ways. If you cannot complete within your normal duty time and absorb that PDA’s will demonstrate this clearly. Remember the agreement on absorption states where there is spare capicity than absorption may take place.

However if you are finishing early and the PDA actual states that you have ample capacity than management will look at absorption’s.

Remember Royal Mail have look at the results from PDA’s in some detail. Every day the results of every duties PDA actual is printed on every senior managers and DOMs Royal Mail dashboard.

New technology is changing the whole job in Royal Mail along with the Automated Hours Data Capture trails.

So if you really want the CWU to argue for more pay , a better pension , a shorter working week , job security , more part timers made up and full time jobs protected than you really cannot expect the CWU to say that people cannot work the hours they are contracted and paid.

However how resourcing and absorptions take place should be via a negotiated resourcing meeting where traffic and results from PDAs and indoor performance is reviewed.

A message for those members who come in early, many in the belief that if they start early they can finish early. Well Royal Mail new advertised delivery window which will increase revenue along with PDA’s actuals will change this going forward and maybe if they considered doing the job as it should be it might even reduce the need for absorption’s.

Additionally from October when all offices will move to 38 hours than that will be with paid meal reliefs just under 35 hours working time and therefore less opportunity for Royal Mail to absorb.

Lapsing was brought in because RM was under the not always accurate impression that we were finishing before end of duty time. It makes no sense to do lapsing if posties are claiming overtime to complete their existing duty. I suppose maybe it saves money.

Four loops could be four times double lapsing! That is crazy!

Hang on. Everybody in the office could have three weeks off in July and August? Potentially half of the offices leave gone in two months? What do the reserves do the rest of the year?
Nope I didn't explain myself clearly enough. Apart from the Xmas weeks on every week in our DO two posties can have that week booked as annual leave. During the summer lapsing it is made possible to have three posties booking each week in July and August. Hope that clears it up.

I totally agree that with PDA actuals & then AHDC posties will have to start doing the job 'properly' or at the very least stop coming in early and taking all their break time. I really worry that some will not do this which will mean dreadful consequences for all or the remaining staff. Stupid is as stupid does to quote Forrest Gump.
Is your last sentence incorrect or does it not say we have three hours break time ?

40 minutes per day over 5 days = 3 hours 20 minutes.
