Meal relief
Going on the basis that meal relief is calculated at 5 minutes per each hour worked, then 20 minutes should only be taken after 4 hours of work.

How and why can a break be 'scheduled' for 8.30? If you start at 6.30 and finish at 14.30 or later why should you have to have a break at 8.30?clashcityrocker wrote:

You cannot just take it as and when you feel like it.

The other week I was put with a full timer who didn't want me to help tie up as he did it different to the frame and he "didn't want to waste time explaining it when I could just get on and do it"....which was fair enough. He then told me to have my break while he tied up and I just burst out laughing, "a break from what? I've literally only just gone on the clock."
Then we went out on the duty and never stopped for a break once. It's chaotic anarchy.

Yes paid breaks dirty B#########awesomepenguin wrote:Nice one CWU for agreeing to the whole shambolic farce that is the meal relief/break situation in Royal Mail.Harri74 wrote:You sound quite confident about this. Another example of Royal Mail inflexibility. Part Timers start at 7:45 are told to take their meal relief at 8:30. Nice one Royal Mailclashcityrocker wrote:Your meal relief should have been scheduled as part of your revision process.Harri74 wrote:Ha, yeah, good thinking! Thanks for replying. As a previous Union rep I cannot remember any Nat Agreement that said you have to take them either separately or at specific times.
Your office should have voted on the duration/split.
The Working Time Directive states that an employer can tell the employees when to take their break - it should be somewhere in the middle (very vague) but cannot be at the start or the end of the duty.
If your break was scheduled as 20 minutes at 8.30, then your break is 20 minutes at 8.30.
